Description

Not every M20 joint suits an X wrench. For example, bolts in a high property class on crane slews, mill stands and large couplings can call for more torque than an X body reads. The Snap-on QZXM30ADP box end head moves that work to the Z shank. Its closed 30 mm ring fits the M20 hex, and two pins hold the head in the body.

X body or the Snap-on QZXM30ADP box end head?

Snap-on’s X bodies top out at 251 ft-lb on the QD3IN350A, 250 ft-lb on the CTECH3X250A and 300 ft-lb on the QC4P300. Above those values, the Z shank takes over. However, the Z click body has a floor as well. The QD4IN800A reads 129-572 ft-lb, so it cannot set a value below 129 ft-lb. For low M20 values, then, choose the CTECH4Z600A, which starts at 30 ft-lb, or the QXXM30A on an X body.

A rating that needs one more check

Snap-on’s UK brochure lists the 30 mm Z ring as QZXM30A, with the same width and depth. However, its printed maximum is higher than the figure the partner listing gives for the QZXM30ADP. Since the numbers differ, this page shows neither. Lost in HCM confirms the rating with your quote.

Seating a Z ring safely

The QD4IN800A is 41-1/2 in long and weighs 11.14 lb, so support the head as you seat it. Next, press the ring fully over the hex, because a ring that rides high can slip under load. In addition, the 44 mm ring needs about 22 mm of side room. Snap-on also warns against breaking fasteners loose, so free seized nuts with another tool first. These steps protect both the Snap-on QZXM30ADP box end head and the joint.
