Description
Once a job moves to 1 in sockets, the wrench body and the head both have to step up. The Snap-on QZD32BDP ratcheting head is the 1 in drive option on Snap-on’s largest shank, the Z (0.990 in). It locks in with dual pins and lets you swing back without lifting the socket.

QZD32BDP at a glance
| Square drive | 1 in |
|---|---|
| Shank | Z (0.990 in), dual pins |
| Head O.D. | 2-1/2 in |
| Head depth | 1-1/2 in |
| Ratchet service kit | RKRQC5 |
| Fastener center to retaining pin | 5.75 in (QZD series) |
3/4 in or 1 in on the Z shank
Snap-on offers two Z ratcheting heads. First, the QZD24BDP carries a 3/4 in drive, a 1-1/4 in head depth and the RKRQC4 kit. Meanwhile, the QZD32BDP moves up to 1 in and a 1-1/2 in depth with the RKRQC5 kit. Even so, both share a 2-1/2 in O.D. So choose by socket drive, not by head size. If your sockets are 1 in, the QZD32BDP avoids an adaptor in the stack.
Z bodies for the Snap-on QZD32BDP ratcheting head
- CTECH4Z600A ControlTech: 30 to 600 ft-lb (40.7 to 813.5 N·m), Z shank.
- QD4IN800A dual-range: 150 to 800 N·m (129 to 572 ft-lb), Z shank.
The QD dual-range table carries the footnote “For use with dual pin heads only.” Its text does not tie that note to one body. However, Snap-on’s Z ratcheting and fixed heads all carry a DP suffix. So ask Lost in HCM to confirm the match between your body and the Snap-on QZD32BDP ratcheting head.
Torque limit for the 1 in Z head
Snap-on’s catalog text does not print a working torque for the QZD32BDP. So we leave the limit out rather than guess. Ask Lost in HCM for the current figure, and set the body below it. In addition, ControlTech bodies store a calibration factor for different head lengths, so select the one for this head.
Servicing the ratchet
Heavy ratchets take hard use, so plan for wear. Snap-on lists the RKRQC5 ratchet service kit for the QZD32BDP. Therefore, keep one kit on the shelf when the head runs daily. Also clean grit from the drive and the pins before each swap. Never free a seized nut with it, either.
