Description
A 30 mm hex usually means M20, since ISO 4032 and DIN 934 both use that size. The Snap-on QYXM30A box end head puts a 30 mm, 12-point ring on the mid-size Y shank (0.560 in). That makes it the lighter option for M20 work, where the joint value fits a Y body’s scale.

Read the M20 value before choosing the QYXM30A
- Up to 140 ft-lb: the QD3IN200B adjustable body (40-200 N·m) covers it and ships with a calibration certificate.
- One fixed value up to 200 ft-lb: the QC3P200 preset body reaches it.
- Up to 100 ft-lb with a data record: the CTECH2Y100A logs each pull.
- Above 200 ft-lb: no Y body gets there, so move to an X or Z ring and body.
So the Y ring makes sense only when the spec lands inside that window. Whatever the body, the head limit that Lost in HCM confirms stays the ceiling. Also mind the low end of each scale, because Snap-on states accuracy from 20% of full scale upward.
The Snap-on QYXM30A box end head in a tight bolt row
Snap-on’s UK brochure gives the QYXM30A a 44 mm outside diameter and a 19 mm depth. Half of that width is 22 mm, so the ring needs that much room from the bolt center to the next obstacle. On a flange with close M20 bolts, check the gap to the neighboring nut first. Then swing the Y body clear of pipes and brackets before you pull.
Where the QYXM30A sits among 30 mm rings
The brochure lists 30 mm rings for the Y, X and Z shanks, but none for J. The X ring is the QXXM30A, and Snap-on also makes a Z ring for the heaviest M20 work. Both suit stronger joints on longer bodies. Meanwhile, the Snap-on QYXM30A box end head keeps the tool lighter and shorter for modest values. In addition, its 3.00 in pin-to-fastener span is the shortest of the three.
Keeping a 44 mm ring in service
Wipe grit out of the ring after each job, since dirt in the points can lift the head off the hex. Store the QYXM30A in a drawer slot, so the shank and pin hole stay free of dents. Before each shift, push the shank home and check that the pin holds it firmly.

Buying the 30 mm Y ring: FAQ
What maximum torque applies to the QYXM30A?
Our two sources give different figures, so none appears here. Lost in HCM confirms the limit when it quotes.
Can a J-shank wrench take a 30 mm ring?
No. In Snap-on’s brochure, the metric J rings stop at 27 mm.
Is the QYXM30A enough for structural M20 bolts?
Only if the specified value sits inside a Y body’s scale. Otherwise, choose the X or Z version and a matching body.
