Description
Y-shank bodies work in a higher band than J bodies, so a Y flare head needs a rating to match. The Snap-on QYRXSM15A flare nut head brings a slotted 15 mm 6-point ring to that class. Snap-on rates it at 71 ft-lb, or about 96 N·m.

Checked figures for the QYRXSM15A
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 15 mm, 6-point, slotted ring |
| Shank | Y (0.560 in) |
| Maximum recommended working torque | 71 ft-lb (CAT1500i); 850 in-lb (UK brochure) |
| O.D. | 26 mm |
| Head depth | 10 mm |
| Fastener center to retaining pin | 3.00 in (QYRXSM series) |
Both Snap-on documents give the Y head the same limit, as 850 in-lb is about 70.8 ft-lb.
The 15 mm J twin
Snap-on also makes a J-shank 15 mm head, the QJRXSM15A, with the same 26 mm O.D. and 10 mm depth. However, its rating differs between the US catalog and the UK brochure, so we leave it out. The spacing differs too: the J series sits at 2.50 in, while the QYRXSM15A sits at 3.00 in. In short, choose by the body you own.
Y bodies under a 96 N·m head
- CTECH2Y100A ControlTech, 5-100 ft-lb: stop at 71 ft-lb with this head.
- QD3IN200B dual-range, 40-200 N·m: use only the lower part of the scale, up to about 96 N·m.
- QC3P150 preset, 30-150 ft-lb: set the preset at or below 71 ft-lb.
So the QYRXSM15A limit, not the scale, decides your highest setting.
Tube nuts for the Snap-on QYRXSM15A flare nut head
A slotted ring passes over the tube, and the 6-point ring then grips the flats of the nut. That makes it useful on brake, fuel, hydraulic and cooling lines. When a 15 mm tube nut spec sits above what your J body covers, the Y head on a Y body is the cleaner match. Also measure the nut first, since a loose ring will round it.
Care for a slotted 15 mm ring
Seat the QYRXSM15A fully before each pull, and keep the wrench square to the nut. Then pull smoothly through the signal. Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with its torque bodies, so free stuck nuts first. In addition, retire the head if the slot ever looks wider than before.
