Description
At 20 mm, the shank you pick changes the size and weight of the kit more than its limit. The Snap-on QYOM20A open end head carries the same 160 ft-lb rating as the X-shank version. So a mid-size Y body can torque 20 mm fittings, bolts and adapters without moving up to a heavier handle.

QYOM20A specifications
- Opening: 20 mm, open end.
- Shank: Y (0.560 in).
- Rated maximum working torque: 160 ft-lb (about 217 N·m).
- O.D.: 41 mm. Head depth: 9 mm.
- Fastener center to retaining pin: 3.00 in (QYOM series).
Why Y is the sensible shank at 20 mm
Snap-on’s table shows three 20 mm open-end heads. The J head stops at 60 ft-lb. Meanwhile, the Y and X heads both stop at 160 ft-lb. Therefore an X body adds weight and length here, but no extra capacity. The QYOM20A is usually the better pick, unless your station already runs X bodies for larger nuts.

CAT1500i lists the QD3IN200B dual-range body at 37 to 140 ft-lb, as well as QC3P150 and QC3P200 presets. With the dual-range body, the scale ends below the head limit, so the QYOM20A never becomes the weak point. With the QC3P200, however, keep the preset at 160 ft-lb or less. In addition, Snap-on says its QD bodies need no adjustment calculation with heads sized from pin to fastener center.
Fitting a 41 mm head into tight spaces
The QYOM20A is 41 mm across and 9 mm deep. That slim profile slides between hydraulic lines or behind a bracket. For example, a valve block with fittings close together often leaves room for a side approach only. Still, an open jaw holds just two flats, so seat it fully and pull square to the handle.
Care for the QYOM20A
Wipe off oil and paint flakes, because both reduce grip on the flats. Also check that the lock pin snaps fully home each time. Then store the Snap-on QYOM20A open end head beside your other Y heads, so nobody grabs a J head by mistake.

QYOM20A questions
Is the X-shank 20 mm head stronger?
No. Snap-on rates the QXOM20A at 160 ft-lb too, so it only makes sense if you already own X bodies.
What does the QD3IN200B limit me to?
Its scale tops out at 140 ft-lb, so that becomes your ceiling with this pairing.
Where is a 20 mm hex common?
You will find 20 mm on many hydraulic and pneumatic fittings and some adapters. Measure first, since standards vary.
