Description
Japanese and German machines in Vietnam often use DIN or JIS M10 bolts, and those nuts measure 17 mm. The Snap-on QYOM17A open end head fits that hex from the side on a Y-shank (0.560 in) torque body. It also suits 24-degree tube nuts with the same flats, so one jaw covers bolts and lines on many machines.

Snap-on QYOM17A open end head: the 103 ft-lb jaw
CAT1500i gives this jaw a maximum recommended working torque of 103 ft-lb. The UK brochure prints 1,235 in-lb, which comes to the same figure, or about 140 N·m. In both books, the 17 mm J jaw sits much lower. So the Y shank makes sense once an M10 joint needs more than a light J head can give.
A 17 mm job list for Vietnamese plants
- DIN 934 and older JIS M10 nuts on motor mounts, guards and fixtures.
- ISO 8434-1 tube nuts in the 8L and 6S sizes, which also use a 17 mm hex.
- Lock nuts on adjusters where a long screw blocks a socket.
However, ISO 4032 puts M10 at 16 mm. Therefore, check a nut on each machine before you pick the Snap-on QYOM17A open end head, because Korean and European parts may differ from Japanese ones.
Y body pairing for the QYOM17A
- QD3IN200B, 40 to 200 N·m (37 to 140 ft-lb): cap it at 103 ft-lb.
- QC3P150 preset, 30 to 150 ft-lb: lock the setting under 103.
- QC3P200 preset, 40 to 200 ft-lb: half the scale sits above the jaw, so mark the cap.
- CTECH2Y100A, 5 to 100 ft-lb: its top end stays a little under the jaw limit.
Each QYOM head places its pin 3.00 in from the fastener center. Snap-on says QD bodies need no correction for that, while the other two types call for a check with Lost in HCM.
Why the QYOM17A width stays off this page
The two Snap-on catalogs print different outside diameters and depths for this jaw. So we give neither, rather than risk a wrong number. If space is tight, try a 17 mm spanner of similar size first, or ask Lost in HCM for the current figure.
Getting a Snap-on QYOM17A open end head quote
Lost in HCM supplies this jaw and writes each quote, while SMK Vietnam lists it. Request a quote from Lost in HCM and note your Y body and the M10 value. See torque wrench heads and adaptors for the 16 mm and 18 mm jaws, or contact SMK Vietnam with questions.
QYOM17A questions on M10 work
Does the QYOM17A fit ISO M10 hardware?
No. ISO 4032 gives M10 a 16 mm hex, which sits loose in a 17 mm jaw. For a Y body, Snap-on lists the QYOM16A.
Should I pick the X version for more torque?
There is no gain. Both catalogs give the 17 mm X jaw the same 103 ft-lb limit, so choose X only if your kit already runs X bodies.
How often should the Y body go for checking?
Snap-on’s UK brochure advises recalibration every 6 months, or sooner with heavy use. Send the head along so the lab can check the jaw too.
