Description
The Snap-on QYD12A-80 ratcheting head lets a Y-shank torque wrench drive 3/8 in sockets. It is the standard-length 3/8 in Y head, at 3.00 in from the retaining pin to the fastener center. That matches the spacing Snap-on prints for its other standard Y heads, such as the QYRXSM flare nut series.

One 3/8 in ratchet on three shanks
| Head | Shank | Pin to fastener center |
|---|---|---|
| QJD12A-80 | J (0.425 in) | 2.50 in |
| QYD12A-80 | Y (0.560 in) | 3.00 in |
| QXD12A-80 | X (0.735 in) | 4.50 in |
Snap-on’s chart gives all three the same 1-1/4 in O.D., 9/16 in depth and RKRF80 service kit. Only the shank and the spacing change. Hence your body picks the head, while your 3/8 in sockets stay the same. Among them, the QYD12A-80 is the one for Y bodies.
Y bodies for the Snap-on QYD12A-80 ratcheting head
- QD3IN200B dual-range, 40-200 N·m.
- CTECH2Y100A ControlTech, 5-100 ft-lb.
- QC3P150 preset, 30-150 ft-lb.
- QC3P200 preset, 40-200 ft-lb.
For its dual-range bodies, Snap-on says the heads are sized from pin to fastener center, so no adjustment sums are needed. The ControlTech body, by contrast, stores a calibration factor for each head length. Either way, check the body manual before you put the QYD12A-80 into production.
Rating: confirm before you set
We found no single maximum working torque for the QYD12A-80 that all sources share. CAT1500i prints none in its text, and the UK brochure rates a QYD12A without the -80 suffix and with a different kit. So we quote no limit here. Instead, ask Lost in HCM to confirm the figure before you set a Y body near its top.
Keeping the Snap-on QYD12A-80 ratcheting head in service
When the ratchet starts to skip or feels rough, fit the RKRF80 service kit rather than a new head. In addition, keep grit out of the mechanism and wipe the shank, so the pin locks cleanly. Never use the head to break a bolt loose, as Snap-on warns for its torque tools.
