Description
On an X-shank station, the smallest metric ring in Snap-on’s UK brochure is 17 mm. The Snap-on QXXM17A box end head fills that slot with a closed 12-point ring for DIN-pattern M10 hex heads. So a line that already runs an X body for larger bolts can torque its 17 mm hardware without a second wrench.

QXXM17A rating and size
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Max. recommended working torque | 2,365 in-lb (about 197 ft-lb, 267 N·m) |
| Outside diameter | 25 mm |
| Head depth | 11 mm |
| Fastener center to retaining pin | 4.50 in |
| Shank | X (0.735 in) |
Snap-on’s brochure and the partner listing agree on this rating. In the same brochure row, the Y ring at 17 mm shows the very same figure. Therefore the X version adds no torque at this size. Instead, it adds a fit with X bodies and a longer reach from the pin.
X bodies to pair with the Snap-on QXXM17A box end head
- QD3IN350A: adjustable, 70-350 N·m (59-251 ft-lb), 23 in, with a certificate of calibration.
- QC4P300: preset, 60-300 ft-lb, 27 in, for one fixed value per station.
- CTECH3X250A: electronic, 12.5-250 ft-lb, 24.1 in, with a record of each pull.
Every one of these bodies can pass 197 ft-lb. So set the scale or the preset below the ring rating, and label the station. Light values matter too, because Snap-on states accuracy only from 20% of full scale. Below about 50 ft-lb, all three bodies run under that point. For those joints, a Y body with the QYXM17A or a J body with the QJXM17A is the better tool.
One X body for mixed bolt sizes
Snap-on sizes its QD heads the same from the pin to the fastener center, so a head swap needs no adjustment sums. For example, a gearbox line might torque 24 mm bolts and a row of 17 mm DIN M10 bolts at one post. With the QXXM17A and a larger X ring in the drawer, one QD3IN350A covers both. As a result, the station keeps a single tool on its calibration record.
Clearance around the 25 mm ring
Half of the 25 mm outside diameter puts the ring edge about 12.5 mm from the bolt center. So the QXXM17A needs that much room to the nearest wall or flange web. Its 11 mm depth also lets it slide under guards. However, an X body is long, so check the arc of the handle before you commit.
Where to source the Snap-on QXXM17A box end head
Lost in HCM supplies this ring and sets the price, while SMK Vietnam lists it for them. Send your X body model and the M10 torque value with the request. Then request a quote from Lost in HCM. Larger and smaller rings appear under torque wrench heads and adaptors, or you can contact SMK Vietnam.
QXXM17A selection FAQ
Does the X ring carry more torque than the Y ring at 17 mm?
No. Snap-on’s brochure rates both at 2,365 in-lb, so pick the shank that matches your body.
Will the QXXM17A fit an ISO 4017 M10 bolt?
No. ISO M10 hex heads measure 16 mm, and the brochure shows no 16 mm X ring.
What does Snap-on warn against with this ring?
Going past the rated torque, and breaking fasteners loose. So free seized bolts with a plain wrench first.
