Description
The Snap-on QXSD24A fixed head lets an X-shank torque wrench take 3/4 in sockets directly, with no adaptor in the drive line. It has a solid square and no ratchet inside. So it suits the final pull on large nuts where your crew already keeps 3/4 in sockets.

QXSD24A rating against the other X fixed heads
| Head | Drive | UK brochure limit |
|---|---|---|
| QXSD16A | 1/2 in | 3,000 in-lb (250 ft-lb) |
| QXSD24A | 3/4 in | 2,400 in-lb (200 ft-lb) |
| QXSD32A | 1 in | 3,600 in-lb (300 ft-lb) |
Notice that the 3/4 in head carries a lower rating than the 1/2 in head on the same shank. In other words, a bigger drive does not mean a higher limit here. Choose the QXSD24A for socket fit, then keep the wrench at or below 200 ft-lb, about 271 N·m.
X bodies and the 200 ft-lb cap
- QD3IN350A dual-range, 70-350 N·m: stop at 271 N·m with this head.
- CTECH3X250A ControlTech, 12.5-250 ft-lb: cap the setting at 200 ft-lb.
- QC4P300 preset, 60-300 ft-lb: set the preset value at 200 ft-lb or less.
Each of these bodies reaches past the QXSD24A rating. Therefore, the head decides your highest setting.
Size and spacing of the Snap-on QXSD24A fixed head
CAT1500i gives the 3/4 in fixed heads a 1-1/2 in O.D. and a 2 in depth. Meanwhile, the UK brochure places the QXSD series at 4.50 in from fastener center to retaining pin. The 2 in depth adds height above the socket, so check overhead room near walls and flanges first. Also note that the dual-pin Z head, the QZSD24ADP, shares the same 3/4 in O.D. and depth.
Fixed-drive habits with the QXSD24A
Run nuts down with a speed tool first, then make the final pull with the torque wrench. A fixed square has no pawl, so lift and reset the wrench between swings. In addition, check the square corners for rounding, because a worn drive lets the socket rock. Snap-on also warns against using its torque bodies to break fasteners loose.

Questions on the 3/4 in X fixed head
How much torque can the QXSD24A carry?
Snap-on’s UK brochure lists 2,400 in-lb, which is 200 ft-lb or about 271 N·m.
Why is the 1/2 in X head rated higher?
Snap-on lists the QXSD16A at 3,000 in-lb but gives no reason. So follow each head’s own figure.
Will a Z-shank body take the QXSD24A?
No. Z bodies need Z heads, such as the dual-pin QZSD24ADP with the same 3/4 in drive.
