Description

M20 is a workhorse size on frames, motor bases and hydraulic blocks. Its nut uses a 30 mm hex in both ISO 4032 and DIN 934. The Snap-on QXOM30A open end head fits that hex to an X-shank (0.735 in) torque body. So you can tighten a nut on a rod or behind a pipe, where a socket will not pass.

Five checks before ordering a QXOM30A

  • Hex size: measure 30 mm across the flats, since paint and wear can mislead.
  • Shank: confirm your body is X (0.735 in), not Y or Z.
  • Clearance: allow 61 mm of width and 13 mm of depth around the nut.
  • Torque: compare the joint spec with the head limit that Lost in HCM confirms.
  • Direction: keep the jaw fully on the flats and pull at a steady rate.

Why this page omits the QXOM30A rating

Snap-on’s two sources disagree on this head. CAT1500i and the source packet give 240 ft-lb, whereas the UK brochure prints 3,600 in-lb, or 300 ft-lb. Because a wrong limit can spread the jaw, we leave the figure out. Instead, Lost in HCM states it with your quote. On the other hand, both sources agree on the 61 mm width and 13 mm depth.

Two X wrenches that accept the Snap-on QXOM30A open end head

CAT1500i lists two X bodies. The QC4P300 presets from 60 to 300 ft-lb and runs 27 in long. Meanwhile, the QD3IN350A adjusts from 70 to 350 N·m, about 59 to 251 ft-lb, and measures 23 in. Either way, set the body no higher than the confirmed head limit. Every QXOM head keeps a 4.50 in pin-to-fastener distance, so Snap-on says QD users need no correction.

Other 30 mm jaws in the range

CAT1500i also shows the 30 mm opening as QJOM30, QYOM30A and QZOM30ADP. So a lighter M20 spec may suit a Y head, while a heavy one may need the Z head. In practice, choose the shank that matches the wrench bodies your team already owns. Then the QXOM30A joins a set without new handles.

M20 jaw FAQ

Is 30 mm the correct hex for an M20 nut?

Yes. ISO 4032 and DIN 934 both use 30 mm for M20.

Which X body is shorter, the QC4P300 or the QD3IN350A?

CAT1500i lists the QD3IN350A at 23 in long, against 27 in for the QC4P300, so the QD body is shorter.

Can the QXOM30A loosen a seized nut?

No. Snap-on warns against using these wrenches to break fasteners loose. Use a breaker bar for that.
