Description

M18 is the size where a light torque wrench starts to run short. The Snap-on QXOM27A open end head gives an X-shank (0.735 in) body a 27 mm jaw for those joints. It slides onto the flats from the side, so a rod or a hose can stay where it is.

27 mm jobs on the shop floor

A 27 mm hex fits M18 nuts in both ISO 4032 and DIN 934. It is also the nut size for 15L and 14S tube in ISO 8434-1 fittings. For example, a press pump outlet may carry a 15L tube nut right beside its mounting bracket. A socket cannot pass over the tube there, but the QXOM27A can.

Dial or preset X body for the Snap-on QXOM27A open end head

  • QD3IN350A: adjustable, 70 to 350 N·m (59 to 251 ft-lb), 23 in long, 3.36 lb, with a calibration certificate.
  • QC4P300: preset, 60 to 300 ft-lb, 27 in long, for one repeated value, with no certificate.

Use the dial body when a crew moves between joints with different specs. On the other hand, choose the preset for a station that repeats one value. Either way, both bodies start near 60 ft-lb, so the QXOM27A is not a tool for light specs.

Torque rating of the QXOM27A

The catalog figure and the UK brochure figure for this head do not match, so neither appears on this page. Lost in HCM will state the confirmed rating on its quote. Until then, stay well clear of the top of either X scale with the QXOM27A fitted.

Fit notes for the QXOM27A

At 55 mm across and 12 mm deep, the 27 mm head has the same size in both Snap-on sources. Its retaining pin sits 4.50 in from the fastener center, the X series spacing. CAT1500i adds that QD heads keep a constant pin-to-fastener size, so a QD3IN350A needs no length math. Also, never use the head to free a stuck nut, since Snap-on rules that out.

27 mm X-shank questions on the QXOM27A

Is 27 mm the right jaw for an ISO M18 nut?

Yes. ISO 4032 and DIN 934 both give M18 a 27 mm hex, so the QXOM27A fits either standard.

Will the QXOM27A lock into a Z-shank wrench?

It will not, because it has an X shank. Z bodies need the dual-pin QZOM27ADP instead.

Which X body suits a crew with mixed specs?

Pick the QD3IN350A, since you can dial each value. By contrast, the QC4P300 preset suits one repeated value.
