Description
Gearbox feet, pump bases and motor slide rails often use M14 bolts with ISO nuts. Under ISO 4032, that nut has a 21 mm hex. The Snap-on QXOM21A open end head fits it from the side on an X-shank (0.735 in) torque body. As a result, firm M14 values stay in reach even where a socket cannot sit on the bolt.

Rating check: the QXOM21A in both Snap-on books
CAT1500i rates this jaw at 180 ft-lb. The UK torque brochure prints 2,160 in-lb, which also comes to 180 ft-lb. So the two books agree, and the limit equals about 244 N·m. The X shank sits at the top of the 21 mm row, because Snap-on shows no Z version at this size. Both books also put the head at about 43 to 44 mm across and roughly 9 mm deep.
How much of each X scale the QXOM21A can use
| X body | Full scale | Usable with this jaw |
|---|---|---|
| QD3IN350A | 59-251 ft-lb | 59 to 180 ft-lb |
| QC4P300 | 60-300 ft-lb | 60 to 180 ft-lb |
| CTECH3X250A | 12.5-250 ft-lb | 12.5 to 180 ft-lb |
Every X body runs past 180 ft-lb, so write the cap on the station sheet. In addition, the two mechanical bodies cannot set much below 60 ft-lb. For softer M14 joints, the electronic body or a Y kit fits better.
M14 machine work for the Snap-on QXOM21A open end head
Vietnam’s FDI plants mix machines from Korea, Europe and Japan, so M14 hex sizes vary. ISO hardware takes the 21 mm jaw, while DIN 934 and older JIS nuts need 22 mm. Therefore, check one nut per machine before you build a tool kit. Typical jobs for the Snap-on QXOM21A open end head include conveyor drive mounts, pump baseplates and guard frames on press lines.
Pin reach on the QXOM21A
Each QXOM head places its retaining pin 4.50 in from the fastener center. Snap-on says QD heads keep a consistent pin length, so QD bodies need no setting maths. For a preset or ControlTech body, however, confirm the setting method with Lost in HCM.

Checks to run before ordering the QXOM21A
My M14 nuts measure 22 mm. Which head do I need?
Those are DIN or older JIS nuts. For an X body, Snap-on lists the QXOM22A at 22 mm, so order that jaw instead of the QXOM21A.
Can I run the QXOM21A on a ControlTech wrench?
The CTECH3X250A has an X shank, so the head locks in. Keep the target at or under 180 ft-lb, and ask Lost in HCM how to set the wrench for this head.
Is there a 21 mm head for Z bodies?
No. Neither Snap-on catalog shows a Z jaw at 21 mm. The metric Z row starts at 24 mm.
