Description

ISO M10 bolts and nuts carry a 16 mm hex, and many of them hold light parts. Think of guard panels, sensor brackets, cable trays and plastic housings. Those joints need a gentle, measured value, and the bolt often sits under a lip. The Snap-on QJXM16A box end head suits that work. It puts a closed 16 mm ring on Snap-on’s lightest shank, so a short J body can reach in from the side.

QJXM16A ring data

Opening 16 mm, 12-point, closed
Shank J (0.425 in)
Outside diameter 24 mm
Head depth 10 mm
Pin to fastener center 2.50 in (QJXM series)

The partner listing and Snap-on’s UK torque brochure agree on every size above. They disagree on the maximum working torque, though. So we leave that figure off, and Lost in HCM states the limit in its quote.

J or Y: the two 16 mm rings

Snap-on prints a 16 mm ring for two shanks. The QJXM16A fits J bodies, while the QYXM16A fits Y bodies. Both rings share one width and depth, so the choice rests on your wrench and your torque target. In short, pick the J ring for light specs and compact tools. In contrast, the brochure gives the Y ring a much higher limit for steel M10 joints in a high property class.

Compact J wrenches that accept the Snap-on QJXM16A box end head

  • For M10 screws into aluminum or plastic bosses, the QD2IN50A reads 10-50 N·m (9.2-35.0 ft-lb).
  • General bracket work suits the 14-1/2 in QD2IN100A and its 20-100 N·m (16.6-71.9 ft-lb) scale.
  • When one station sets several values, the 13 in QC2I75 adjusts from 5 to 75 ft-lb.
  • Very low values, down to 1.0 ft-lb, call for the electronic CTECH1J240A.

Some of these bodies read past a cautious ring limit. Therefore, set each value at or below the figure Lost in HCM confirms for the QJXM16A.

Fitting a 24 mm ring between M10 bolts

The ring needs about 12 mm from the bolt center to the nearest wall. Also, its 10 mm depth slides under covers that would stop a socket stack. Because the ring has 12 points, it drops onto the hex every 30 degrees. As a result, a short swing between two brackets still works with the Snap-on QJXM16A box end head.

QJXM16A buying notes

Does the QJXM16A suit DIN-pattern M10 bolts?

Not always. DIN 933 and DIN 934 give M10 a 17 mm hex, so measure the flats. The QJXM17A covers that size.

Can a QD2IN100A over-torque this ring?

It can, because its scale runs to 71.9 ft-lb. Keep the setting at or below the head limit that Lost in HCM confirms.

Which body gives the finest control on plastic housings?

A low-range J body such as the QD2IN50A, since its 9.2-35.0 ft-lb scale suits small values.
