Description
The Snap-on QJSD8A fixed head is the smallest part in Snap-on’s fixed square drive chart. It puts a solid 1/4 in drive on a J-shank (0.425 in) torque wrench, with a 5/8 in outside diameter. That slim nose suits small sockets on crowded control panels, drive cabinets and electronics enclosures.

Fixed QJSD8A or a 1/4 in ratchet
| Head | Type | O.D. | Depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| QJSD8A | Fixed | 5/8 in | 3/4 in |
| QJD8A-72 | Ratcheting | 15/16 in | 7/16 in |
| QJD8SL-72 | Ratcheting, long | 15/16 in | 7/16 in |
So the fixed head is narrower but taller than either ratchet. Choose it when the socket must pass between close neighbors, such as a row of terminal screws. Choose a ratchet when the head must slip under a low cover, or when the swing arc is short.
In-lb bodies for the Snap-on QJSD8A fixed head
- QC1P60 preset: 10-60 in-lb.
- QC1P100 preset: 15-100 in-lb.
- QC1I200 adjustable: 40-200 in-lb.
- QC1P300 preset: 60-300 in-lb.
- CTECH1J240A ControlTech: 12-240 in-lb.
Preset bodies suit a station that runs one value all shift. Meanwhile, the QC1I200 and the ControlTech suit a tool crib that changes settings often. Every one of them uses the J shank, so the Snap-on QJSD8A fixed head drops straight in.
The rating question for the Snap-on QJSD8A fixed head
CAT1500i prints no working limit for its fixed heads. The older Snap-on UK Torque Brochure, however, lists 200 in-lb for the QJSD8A. Because the newer catalog does not repeat that figure, confirm it with Lost in HCM before you set a body above it. In practice, that value lines up with the top of the QC1I200 scale.
Sockets, bits and crowfoot work
Snap-on states that these heads let a body work with sockets, crowfoot wrenches and similar attachments. A straight extension on the QJSD8A adds no lever length, so the click still marks the set value. A crowfoot, on the other hand, moves the load away from the pin. In that case, ask Lost in HCM for Snap-on’s setting method before the first pull.
Sourcing a QJSD8A in Vietnam
SMK Vietnam lists the Snap-on QJSD8A fixed head for its partner, and Lost in HCM supplies it and writes the quote. Send your J body model and the socket sizes you run.
