Description

The J column of Snap-on’s metric flare nut chart ends at 20 mm, and the Snap-on QJRXSM20A flare nut head fills that last row. It fits a slotted 6-point 20 mm ring to a J-shank (0.425 in) torque wrench. However, CAT1500i leaves its rating cell blank, so setting the right limit takes a little care.

QJRXSM20A dimensions from CAT1500i

  • Size: 20 mm, 6-point, slotted ring.
  • Shank: J (0.425 in).
  • Outside diameter: 33 mm.
  • Head depth: 13 mm.
  • Maximum working torque: no value printed.

Working around the blank rating

In CAT1500i, the J flare heads from 14 to 19 mm all carry 60 ft-lb. The older UK Torque Brochure, by contrast, gives 900 in-lb (75 ft-lb) for the J heads from 16 to 20 mm. So the two sources disagree, and neither settles the 20 mm figure. For that reason, this page states no limit for the QJRXSM20A. Ask Lost in HCM for Snap-on’s current value before you set a J body above 60 ft-lb.

Snap-on QJRXSM20A flare nut head or the QYRXSM20A

Both 20 mm rings share the 33 mm outside diameter and the 13 mm depth. The Y-shank QYRXSM20A, however, carries a printed 113 ft-lb limit. So if the fitting spec runs high, a Y body with the Y head is the clear route. On the other hand, the J version keeps the tool small. J bodies such as the 13 in QC2I75 are much shorter than Y bodies such as the 23 in QC3P150. In addition, the UK brochure puts QJRXSM heads 2.50 in from pin to fastener and QYRXSM heads 3.00 in.

Clearance around a 20 mm tube nut

The Snap-on QJRXSM20A flare nut head measures 33 mm across, so it needs room around the nut. Check the gap to the next fitting on the manifold before you order. Its 13 mm depth matters too, for example where two nuts sit close along one line. Then slide the slot over the tube and seat the 6 points fully before you pull.

Last step: quote the Snap-on QJRXSM20A flare nut head

SMK Vietnam lists the 20 mm QJRXSM20A for its partner, and Lost in HCM supplies it and writes the quote. Send your J body model, the fitting size and its torque spec. With those, Lost in HCM can quote the 20 mm head. The rest of the range sits in torque wrench heads and adaptors, or you can contact SMK Vietnam.

20 mm J flare head: buyer FAQ

Which body should run the QJRXSM20A?

A J body such as the QC2I75 (5-75 ft-lb) or the QD2IN100A (20-100 N·m). Keep the setting modest until Lost in HCM confirms the head limit.

Does a 21 mm J flare nut head exist?

No. At 21 mm, CAT1500i lists only the Y-shank QYRXSM21A.

Why buy the J head when the Y twin has a printed rating?

It fits the J bodies you already own, and those bodies are shorter and lighter for work in tight engine bays.
