Description
A 36 mm hex is the ISO size for M24 bolts and nuts, yet not every 36 mm joint needs heavy torque. Lock nuts on adjusting screws, large brass unions and plastic pipe fittings often call for a modest value. The Snap-on QJOM36A open end head serves those parts, because it puts a 36 mm jaw on the light J shank.

QJOM36A key data
- Opening: 36 mm, open end.
- Shank: J (0.425 in), 2.50 in from fastener center to retaining pin.
- Maximum recommended working torque: 60 ft-lb, about 81 N·m.
- O.D.: 74 mm.
- Head depth: 15 mm.
These figures come from the CAT1500i metric open end table, and they match the source listing. The UK brochure’s J column stops at 27 mm, so it does not list this head.
A big jaw on a light shank
CAT1500i lists the 36 mm open end head in all four shanks, from J up to the dual-pin Z. Each larger shank carries a higher limit but needs a longer, heavier body. So the Snap-on QJOM36A open end head only makes sense when the spec stays at or below 60 ft-lb. In return, the tool stays short and easy to handle in a cabinet or on a bench.
Low-torque M24-size jobs for the Snap-on QJOM36A open end head
Structural M24 bolts usually need far more than 60 ft-lb, so leave those to a Z head or a socket. However, many 36 mm parts are not structural. For example, a gland nut on a pump, a union on PVC pipe or a lock nut on a leveling foot may use this size. These joints can crack or strip if you overtighten them. Therefore a light body with a 36 mm jaw protects them well.
Pick a J body for the QJOM36A
CAT1500i lists the QC2I75 adjustable body and the QC2P75 preset body, both from 5 to 75 ft-lb. It also lists the QD2IN100A, which reads 20 to 100 N·m, or about 16.6 to 71.9 ft-lb. Each one reaches past 60 ft-lb, so keep your setting at or below the head limit. Also, remember that QC bodies hold their stated accuracy from 20 to 100% of full scale.
QJOM36A and the end of the J range
In CAT1500i, the J column has no 34 mm or 41 mm heads, and 36 mm is the last J entry. So the QJOM36A is the largest metric J jaw in that table. If your nut measures 41 mm, you need a Y, X or Z head. Similarly, at 34 mm, start with the Y-shank QYOM34A.
How to get the Snap-on QJOM36A open end head
Request a quote from Lost in HCM for this head, and include your J body and the torque value. Lost in HCM supplies the QJOM36A, and SMK Vietnam only lists it. For larger shanks at 36 mm, browse torque wrench heads and adaptors, or contact SMK Vietnam.
Questions about a 36 mm J head
Can the QJOM36A tighten M24 anchor bolts?
Only if the spec is 60 ft-lb or less. Most anchor bolts need much more, so choose a heavier shank.
What are the outside dimensions of the QJOM36A?
Its O.D. is 74 mm and its head depth is 15 mm, per CAT1500i.
Why pick the QJOM36A over a Y head at 36 mm?
A J body is shorter and lighter. That helps on benches, in panels and on fittings that need low torque.
