Description
Foundation and anchor bolts on heavy machines need high torque, but they rarely need a ratchet. The Snap-on QD4600A torque wrench reflects that idea. Its 3/4″ drive sits in a fixed head, and its adjustable click mechanism covers 120 to 600 ft-lb.

A fixed head for final torque
On large joints, crews often run nuts down with an impact tool first. After that, the final pull needs control, not speed. A fixed head suits this step, because it has no ratchet parts in the head to wear or slip under load. As a result, the QD4600A gives the operator a firm, direct feel through the drive.
Jobs that match the Snap-on QD4600A torque wrench
- Anchor bolts on presses, injection molding machines and compressors.
- Slew ring and boom bolts on cranes and excavators.
- Steel beam and column splices in factory buildings.
- Transformer, generator and skid base bolts at power sites.
Picking the right 3/4-inch range
The QD4600A starts at 120 ft-lb, so it does not suit light work. Instead, plan to use it for targets from about 150 to 550 ft-lb, well inside the scale. For lower values, a 3/4″ wrench with an 80-400 ft-lb range, such as the QD4R400A, gives finer control. Above 600 ft-lb, step up to a 1″ drive tool.
Pulling technique
Use a socket that fits the nut fully, then set the scale. Keep the handle square to the bolt axis and slow down in the last part of the stroke. Stop at the click. If the joint has many bolts, work in a star pattern, then check each one again at full torque.
Care for the QD4600A
Return the scale to its lowest value when the job ends. Also wipe grit off the head and drive, and lay the tool flat in its case. Then book an outside calibration on your plant’s normal cycle.
