Description

Small fasteners fail quietly when torque drifts. The Snap-on QC1P100 torque wrench body guards against that on light assembly work. It is a preset QC series body that holds one value between 15 and 100 in-lb, or about 1.7 to 11.3 N·m. Snap-on lists an 8 in length and a J shank, so it takes the compact J heads.

Key data for the Snap-on QC1P100 torque wrench body

  • Type: preset, with no scale on the handle.
  • Range: 15-100 in-lb, printed in the brochure as 17-113 dN·m.
  • Shank: J, 0.425 in.
  • Length: 8 in.
  • QC series accuracy: ±4% clockwise and ±6% counterclockwise, from 20% of full scale to full scale.

Reading the QC1P100 dN·m figures

The brochure uses decinewton-meters for the small bodies. One dN·m equals 0.1 N·m, so 113 dN·m is simply 11.3 N·m. Meanwhile, the accuracy band begins at 20 in-lb, since that is 20% of full scale. Values from 15 to 20 in-lb sit below the stated band, so the smaller QC1P60 may suit them better.

Heads reserved for the QC1P100

Snap-on’s torque brochure marks some heads in its tables with a note. That note limits them to the QC1P100 and QC1I200 bodies, while other heads suit every listed body. So check the head table before you order, because a marked head belongs on this body or its adjustable partner. In addition, standard QJD ratcheting heads come in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 in drive for J bodies.

QC1P100 jobs on electronics and appliance lines

  • Terminal screws on relays, breakers and contactors.
  • Sensor and connector mounts on automotive wiring modules.
  • Small brass fittings on gas valves and instrument tubing, using an open-end head.
  • Cover screws on motors, pumps and compressor housings.

Keeping a QC1P100 accurate

Light bodies react badly to rough handling. Therefore, store each one in a rack, never loose in a drawer with heavier tools. Also avoid using the body to break fasteners loose, because a hard reverse pull can disturb the setting. Then confirm the value on a torque tester at a set interval, and pull any body that reads outside your limit.

QC1P100 buyer questions

Is 100 in-lb about 8.3 ft-lb?

Yes. Divide in-lb by 12, so 100 in-lb works out to roughly 8.3 ft-lb.

Does the QC1P100 take J or Y heads?

It takes J heads. Snap-on’s preset body table lists a J shank of 0.425 in for this model.

Why choose a preset body for small screws?

Operators cannot change the value at the station. As a result, every screw gets the same torque on every shift.
