Description
A pneumatic torque wrench pushes back as hard as it turns the bolt, so it needs a solid stop. The Snap-on PTQ1-03S reaction arm gives the PTQ0.5 and PTQ1 that stop. It is the short arm that Snap-on lists as included with those wrenches. So a spare keeps a second tool running, or it replaces an arm that took a knock.

The two wrenches behind the Snap-on PTQ1-03S reaction arm
Both tools have a 3/4 in drive. The PTQ0.5 covers 195-500 ft-lb, while the PTQ1 runs from 320 to 1,285 ft-lb. Snap-on rates the series at plus or minus 5 percent, set by the input air pressure. Because one short arm serves both, a site with mixed PTQ0.5 and PTQ1 tools can stock a single spare.
Short arm or another PTQ1 arm?
The short arm keeps the tool compact and reacts close to the socket. Its 2.40 in offset moves the contact point to one side, so it can bear on a neighboring nut. By contrast, the PTQ1-03L long arm reaches 6.02 in. The PTQ1-03R rotatable arm lists 6.27 in, and the PTQ1-ALC7 ALCO arm lists 7.00 in. Snap-on also offers a twin tool arm with 6.75-8.75 in of adjustment. So choose the PTQ1-03S when the stop sits close and slightly off line.
Fitting the PTQ1-03S safely
Place the arm square against a rigid stop, close to the line of the socket. Otherwise side load can bend the drive or let the tool slip. Also keep hands clear of the arm; the PTQ safety paddle needs two hands for that reason. Then bring the tool up to torque smoothly. Finally, follow Snap-on’s advice on an annual calibration check for the wrench.
Do not swap in the PTQ3 arm
The PTQ3 short arm, the PTQ3-03S, looks similar but suits the larger 1 in drive PTQ3. It lists 5.26 in of length and 4.55 in of offset. Therefore, order the PTQ1-03S, with its PTQ1 prefix, for a PTQ0.5 or PTQ1 tool.
