Description
A truck axle nut or a dump body pivot bolt can call for more than 1,000 ft-lb. A long breaker bar and two fitters may get close, yet nobody knows the real value. The Snap-on ATP1200 torque multiplier solves that with gears and a digital readout. One technician turns a ratchet, and the display shows output torque up to 1,200 ft-lb.

How 48 ft-lb at the ratchet becomes 1,200 ft-lb at the nut
Snap-on lists a 25:1 multiplier ratio and an input capacity of 48 ft-lb for this model. In other words, the operator applies a modest force through the 1/2 inch female square input. The gear train then multiplies it, while the base reacts against a fixed point. Because a gauge on the output reads the result, friction losses in the gears do not distort the number on screen.
Catalog figures for the Snap-on ATP1200 torque multiplier

The included digital controller offers peak and track modes, an over-torque alarm and a printer interface. Also, the display can show ft-lb, in-lb, N·m or kg-cm.
Where fleet and mining workshops use it
- Axle, hub and wheel-end nuts on heavy trucks and buses.
- Pivot and pin bolts on dump bodies and loaders.
- Final drive and sprocket bolts on tracked machines.
- Large gearbox and coupling bolts in plant maintenance.
Setting up the reaction
Two pins in the base mate directly with Snap-on reaction tooling. Where no fixture fits, Snap-on offers an offset reaction bar instead. Either way, place the reaction point square and close, then keep hands well away from it during the pull.
Torque only, or torque plus angle?
Snap-on offers the same frame with angle measurement under the ATP1200E code. So choose the plain ATP1200 when your bolt charts call for torque only. If a joint needs torque plus a turn angle, ask about the E version instead.
Safe use and care
Wear eye protection, and never exceed the rated torque. In addition, Snap-on warns against using the tool to break fasteners loose. After each job, wipe the gearbox and output square, then store the Snap-on ATP1200 torque multiplier in its case. Periodic recalibration keeps the reading trustworthy, so book it with an accredited lab on your quality plan interval.

ATP1200 workshop FAQ
Does the ATP1200 need air or hydraulic power?
No. An operator turns the input with the included 1/2 inch ratchet, and the gears multiply that effort.
Can the ATP1200 display newton-meters?
Yes. Snap-on states the output reading is programmable to ft-lb, in-lb, N·m, kg-cm or custom units.
What sockets fit the ATP1200 output?
The output is a 3/4 inch male square, so use 3/4 inch drive impact-grade sockets rated for the load.
