Description
On a Snap-on PTM tool, air pressure sets the torque. So a pressure that drifts gives you a torque that drifts. The Snap-on PTMFRL filter regulator puts that control right at the tool. It cleans the air, holds the pressure you choose and meters oil into the supply.

What the Snap-on PTMFRL filter regulator includes
- A filter and lubricator in one unit.
- A large pressure gauge for easy pressure setting.
- An adjustable lubricator that supplies the right amount of oil for PTM series tools.
Snap-on calls the unit a requirement for running SpinTORQ and PTM series torque wrenches.
Why pressure control matters
First, note that every PTM tool ships with a torque vs. pressure chart. You find your target torque on the chart, then dial the matching pressure on the gauge. If the plant line rises or falls, the output follows it. The regulator therefore keeps the setting steady at the tool, even when other tools draw air from the same line.
Which tools need it
SMK Vietnam lists the PTM line from the PTM590 and PTM740 up to the PTM4400. Each of these tools also runs through the PTMFRL. In contrast, Snap-on’s PTQ series uses its own FRL unit, the PTQFRL.
Setting up the PTMFRL on a humid shop floor
Compressed air in Vietnam’s plants often carries water, especially in the wet season. As a result, moisture can rust gears and wash out oil. So mount the unit upright and close to the tool, where operators can read the gauge. Next, fill the lubricator with the oil grade your Snap-on manual names. Then drain the filter bowl daily, and more often on humid days.
Quick checks before each shift
- The gauge shows the chart pressure with the tool idle and running.
- The lubricator holds oil and feeds a light mist.
- Hoses and couplings show no leaks.

PTMFRL FAQ
Do I need the PTMFRL to run a PTM tool?
Yes. Snap-on lists it as a requirement for PTM and SpinTORQ torque wrenches.
Does it lubricate the tool?
Yes. It combines a filter and an adjustable lubricator with a large gauge.
Does it fit PTQ wrenches?
Snap-on pairs PTQ wrenches with a separate FRL unit, the PTQFRL. Ask Lost in HCM which one you need.
