Description
Small fixtures, test jigs and electronic assemblies often hide a fastener that no standard head can reach. The Snap-on IZWI9X12 welding insert gives a toolroom a starting point for that job. It carries the 9 x 12 mm IZO fitting, and Snap-on lists it simply as a welding insert. So you can join your own tool shape to it and still plug it into a calibrated wrench body.

Small blank, light work
Snap-on lists two welding inserts in its IZO torque insert heads table: this part and the IZWI14X18. The small one suits the lighter IZO/ISO bodies. For instance, page 328 lists the CTECHAN30A at 1.50 to 30.00 N·m and the CTECHAN135A at 6.8 to 135.0 N·m, both with a 9 x 12 mm receiver. So a custom end on the IZWI9X12 fits jobs such as sensor mounts, cover screws and small terminal nuts. Heavier joints belong on the 14 x 18 mm blank instead.
Before you weld the Snap-on IZWI9X12 welding insert
Plan the end on paper first, because a weld is hard to undo. These steps follow normal toolroom practice, since Snap-on prints no welding method for this part.
- Measure the gap around the fastener and draw the end shape to scale.
- Keep the new end short, because extra reach moves the point of load.
- Choose a filler and heat plan that will not soften the fitting end.
- Mark the finished length on the insert for the wrench setup.
Length, setup and the IZWI9X12
Any custom end changes the distance from the receiver to the fastener center. As a result, the torque at the bolt can differ from the wrench reading. ControlTech bodies help here, because Snap-on builds in a calibration factor for different head lengths. Otherwise, follow the wrench maker’s length correction. In either case, prove the finished tool on a torque tester before it goes to the line.
Where the stock 9 x 12 mm range stops
The small fitting already covers a lot. Open-end inserts run from 7 to 19 mm, and insert rings from 10 to 19 mm. Ratchet inserts add 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 in drives. So check the catalog first, because a stock head usually beats a custom one on cost and records. Use the IZWI9X12 only when no listed shape reaches the joint.
Buying the Snap-on IZWI9X12 welding insert
Lost in HCM supplies the IZWI9X12 and prepares each quote, and SMK Vietnam lists it as a partner product. Share your wrench model and a sketch of the end you plan. With that in hand, request an IZWI9X12 quote from Lost in HCM. Stock IZO heads sit under torque wrench heads and adaptors if a listed shape might do, or contact SMK Vietnam.
IZWI9X12 Q&A
Does Snap-on rate the finished tool?
No torque rating, material or size appears for the IZWI9X12 in CAT1500i. Your weld and end shape set the real limit, so test the finished tool.
Can it go on a CTECHBN340A?
No. That body has a 14 x 18 mm receiver, so it needs the IZWI14X18 blank.
Why not cut down a stock open-end insert?
A blank leaves your stock heads untouched. So the normal insert set stays complete for daily jobs.
