Description
A 17 mm hex on a DIN-pattern M10 bolt turns up on many European machines in Vietnamese plants. The Snap-on IZ17IR9X12 insert ring closes around that hex and plugs into the 9 x 12 mm IZO/ISO receiver of a compact ControlTech wrench. So a light assembly station can torque its M10 hardware without a heavy body.

Where 17 mm falls in the 9 x 12 ring list
Snap-on’s CAT1500i catalog prints eight insert rings for the small fitting: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 19 mm. The list skips 16 mm and 18 mm. As a result, the Snap-on IZ17IR9X12 insert ring is the second largest closed ring a 9 x 12 body can carry. Plants with ISO parts should note the gap, because ISO 4032 gives M10 a 16 mm hex. For that size, the small fitting offers only an open end.
Choosing a compact body for the IZ17IR9X12
| Body | Range | Band from 20% of scale |
|---|---|---|
| CTECHAN30A | 1.50-30.00 N·m | 6 to 30 N·m |
| CTECHAN135A | 6.8-135.0 N·m | 27 to 135 N·m |
Per the catalog, Snap-on holds wrench accuracy from 20% up to full scale. So read the M10 value on the drawing first, then pick the body whose band covers it. If the drawing asks for more than 30 N·m, only the CTECHAN135A reaches it. Meanwhile, the CTECHAN30A suits soft threads and small covers that still use 17 mm hardware. Both bodies take the IZ17IR9X12 directly, with no adaptor.
Snap-on IZ17IR9X12 insert ring at the station
ControlTech bodies carry a built-in calibration factor for interchangeable heads. That means the operator never works out a length correction by hand. First, select the stored factor for this ring before the first bolt. Next, push the shank into the receiver until it locks, and give it one tug. Then seat the ring fully on the hex and pull in one steady motion. Each result goes into the wrench memory, which holds up to 1,500 readings for later audits.
Closed ring versus the 17 mm open jaw
A closed ring wraps the whole hex, which helps on plated or painted heads that mark easily. However, a ring needs a clear path over the top of the bolt. When a hose or a bracket blocks that path, switch to the IZ17OE9X12 open end on the same body. Snap-on also makes both 17 mm styles for the larger 14 x 18 mm fitting. Those suit heavy bodies only, so keep the IZ17IR9X12 for compact wrenches.
Request the Snap-on IZ17IR9X12 insert ring
SMK Vietnam lists this ring for its partner Lost in HCM, which supplies it and prepares every quote. Include your body model, the M10 torque value and the number of stations that need a ring. What buyers ask before ordering the IZ17IR9X12
Is there a 16 mm ring for ISO M10 nuts on the small fitting?
No. For 9 x 12 bodies, CAT1500i lists only an open end at 16 mm, the IZ16OE9X12.
Can a QD2IN100A click wrench drive the IZ17IR9X12?
No. QD bodies take J, Y, X or Z shank heads, while this ring has the rectangular IZO fitting.
What torque limit applies to the ring itself?
CAT1500i prints no separate limit for IZO inserts. Stay within the body’s rated capacity, and ask Lost in HCM to confirm.
