Description

Field crews often work where no compressor can reach. A wind tower, a pipe rack or a remote pump skid all fall into that group. The Snap-on CTM2000 torque multiplier solves the power problem with an 18 V battery. It drives a 1-inch square and covers 500 to 2,000 ft-lb, or 680 to 2,700 N·m.

Why go cordless on site

A pneumatic tool such as a Snap-on PTM model needs a hose, a regulator and a steady air supply. On a large site, that means a generator, a compressor and long hose runs. By contrast, the CTM2000 needs only a charged pack. Snap-on calls this untethered access, and it removes trip hazards from ladders and walkways. Its industrial motor also resists the overheating that stops many battery tools.

Sequence work with the Snap-on CTM2000 torque multiplier

Big flanges need a set pattern, often in several passes. The CTM2000 supports that work in three ways:

  • Two-stage tightening runs a snug torque first and then an angle target.
  • The Operation Direction feature lets you undo one wrong bolt without leaving the sequence.
  • The Turn Angle option checks whether a bolt already holds its torque.

Accuracy and speed

Snap-on rates the CTM2000 and its siblings at ±3%. In addition, joint sensing applies dynamic braking near the target, so motor inertia does not push the bolt past its value. The output turns at 13 RPM, which gives the operator time to watch the reaction arm.

Is 2,000 ft-lb the right ceiling?

Check your heaviest joint before you choose. If most targets sit between 600 and 1,800 ft-lb, the CTM2000 fits well. Above 2,000 ft-lb, the CTM3000 takes over up to 3,000 ft-lb. For targets under 500 ft-lb, however, the CTM1000 suits better because it starts at 250 ft-lb.

Data from the field

On the CTM2000, every final reading goes to memory with a time and date stamp, up to 3,000 entries. Then you can move the log over USB or Bluetooth 4.0 when the crew returns to the office. So the client’s QA team gets a record of each joint.

Looking after the Snap-on CTM2000 torque multiplier

Wipe dust off the vents and the display after each shift. Also charge batteries in a shaded, dry room, since heat shortens pack life. Its brushless motor needs little service, yet the gearbox and reaction arm still deserve a visual check.
