Description

When a 500 ft-lb joint fails, someone will ask for the torque record. The Snap-on CTLNK4Z600 torque wrench answers that question. It is a ControlTech Link digital wrench for 30 to 600 ft-lb. In addition, its Z-shank receiver takes Snap-on’s heaviest interchangeable heads.

What Link means on a ControlTech wrench

Snap-on’s catalog describes ControlTech Link as a wireless system for real-time process control. Through the CTLNKCTRL controller, a Link wrench can feed plant manufacturing execution systems (MES). The controller can also run alone as a data collection or control station. Either way, it documents each torque event. Snap-on lists the controller under its own part number, so ask Lost in HCM whether your quote should include one.

Even without a controller, the wrench keeps a time-stamped data trail. It stores up to 1,500 readings, and you can lock memory presets against changes.

Z shank: the top of the head system

First, Snap-on uses four shank sizes for interchangeable heads. J measures 0.425 inch, Y 0.560 inch and X 0.735 inch. Z, at 0.990 inch, is the largest, so it suits this 600 ft-lb handle. Also, a standard Z head puts the fastener 5.75 inches from the retaining pin. Snap-on sells Z heads separately, including ratcheting square drive heads, a ratcheting pipe wrench head and an adaptor to 1-inch drive.

Heavy joints that deserve a record

  • Press, mill and crusher frame bolts.

Each operator gets the same signals: a backlit LCD, LED lights, a beep and handle vibration. So a crew can work in a loud hall and still know when to stop.

CTLNK4Z600 FAQ

Does the wrench need the controller to work?

No. It stores readings on its own, while the controller adds the plant link and central records.

Which wireless standard does it use?

Snap-on’s catalog does not name it, so ask Lost in HCM for the radio details your IT team needs.

Can it take X heads?

No. Only Z-shank heads, 0.990 inch, fit this receiver, so X heads will not seat.
