Description

Small torque tools need small test links. The Snap-on 342-40 socket adaptor couples two male 1/4 in square drives on one axis, with a female opening at each end. Snap-on lists it among the accessories in the torque tester pages of CAT1500i.

Two part numbers, one description

CAT1500i prints the same text for two stock numbers: the 342-40 and the 342-41-1. Both read as a female 1/4 in square by 1/4 in square socket adaptor. The catalog does not explain the difference, for example in length or wall thickness. So quote the exact 342-40 number when you order, and ask Lost in HCM if you need the other one.

1/4 in sensors and the Snap-on 342-40 socket adaptor

Snap-on’s TTC line has four 1/4 in drive transducers. The TTC4 reads 5-50 in-oz and the TTC5 15-200 in-oz, while the TTC6 covers 4-50 in-lb and the TTC65 15-150 in-lb. Snap-on adds that each one comes with the correct adaptor for its range. Hence a loose 342-40 serves best as a spare, or for a fixture you build at a second bench.

Example: checking a CTECH1MR100

Take the CTECH1MR100, a 1/4 in fixed-head ControlTech wrench that spans 5-100 in-lb. Test points at 20, 60 and 100% land at 20, 60 and 100 in-lb. All three fall inside the TTC65 range, so one sensor covers the whole check. If that sensor presents a male square, the 342-40 links it to the wrench drive with no offset.

Other 1/4 in links beside the 342-40

The 342-41-1S steps from a 1/4 in square to a 3/8 in square. Meanwhile, the 260-27 pairs a 1/4 in hex with a 1/4 in square for bit-style tools. For torque screwdrivers on a TTC2000 or TTC2800 bench, Snap-on offers the TTC75002 testing kit. So pick the 342-40 only when both drives are male 1/4 in squares.

Keeping the Snap-on 342-40 socket adaptor test-ready

At 1/4 in, even slight wear in a square opening shows up as scatter in the readings. So look at both ends under good light before each session. Replace the adaptor once a male square rocks inside it. Keep it in the tester case between uses, away from grit and coolant. Snap-on also asks for periodic recalibration checks on its testers.

Order the 342-40 via Lost in HCM

Lost in HCM supplies the 342-40 and writes the quote, while SMK Vietnam lists it for them. Tell them the tester or transducer model and the wrench drives you check with the Snap-on 342-40 socket adaptor. Then send your 342-40 request to Lost in HCM. More drive links sit in torque wrench heads and adaptors, or you can contact SMK Vietnam.

Choosing between 1/4 in tester links

Is the 342-40 the same as the 342-41-1?

CAT1500i gives both the same description, but it does not say how they differ. So order by the exact number.

Does an inline adaptor need a length correction?

No. It sits on the drive axis and adds no lever arm, unlike a crowfoot or an offset head.

Can the 342-40 link a 1/4 in hex bit to a tester?

No. Use the 260-27, which pairs a 1/4 in hex with a 1/4 in square.
