Description
Most bench questions come down to two signals: what went in and what came out. The Tektronix TBS2102B oscilloscope gives you two analog channels at 100 MHz, so you can compare a stimulus with the circuit response on one screen. It also belongs to the TBS2000B series.
Two channels, one comparison
Put one probe on the input and one on the output. Then read the delay and the shape change between them. A 5-million-point record keeps long captures detailed, and the 9-inch WVGA color display gives the traces room. Also, vertical resolution is 8 bits. Therefore a timing shift between the two traces is easy to spot.
Sample rate with one channel or two
The maximum rate is 2 GS/s with half the channels active. With both channels on, it is 1 GS/s. So switch off a channel you do not need when you want the faster rate.
Probing basics
The TekVPI interface takes compatible probes, and the input impedance is 1 MΩ ±1% with 13 pF ±1.5 pF. So check the probe type against your test. Keep a standard probe ground lead away from mains conductors and floating nodes. Where the circuit needs it, use a rated differential or isolated system instead.
