Description

Debugging a board often means watching four nodes at once. The Tektronix TBS2074B oscilloscope gives you four analog channels at 70 MHz, with a 5-million-point record on a 9-inch color display. Several circuit nodes land in the same acquisition, so you can see how they relate. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, with service on request.

Four channels, one capture

Think of a board with several supply rails. Then you can watch each rail rise during power-up and check the order in which they settle. In the same way, you can compare a clock, its enable line and two data signals. Because every trace shares a trigger, timing differences are easy to measure.

What the TBS2074B offers

  • First, four analog channels with 70 MHz bandwidth.
  • Then a record length of 5 million points.
  • Also vertical resolution of 8 bits.
  • In addition, a 9-inch WVGA color display.
  • Plus a TekVPI probe interface.
  • Finally, input impedance of 1 MΩ ±1% with 13 pF ±1.5 pF.

Sample rate with four channels live

The maximum rate is 2 GS/s with half the channels active, and 1 GS/s with all channels active. On this model, that means 2 GS/s with two channels on and 1 GS/s with all four on. At 1 GS/s, a 5-million-point record spans 5 ms. So turn off unused channels when you need the fastest edges.

Grounding with several probes

Every probe adds a ground connection. However, a conventional passive-probe ground lead must not touch a live mains conductor or an arbitrary floating node. Therefore use a differential or isolated measurement system whenever the circuit calls for it. Also confirm the probe requirements for the TekVPI interface before the job.

Ordering the Tektronix TBS2074B oscilloscope

So a rental suits a multi-rail bring-up or a short audit of a production fixture. However, a design team that works on boards daily may prefer to buy. Please request a quote from Lost in HCM with your probe list, accessories and preferred delivery date. Lost in HCM also confirms calibration status and accessories in the quote. So browse more oscilloscopes on the category page, or contact SMK Vietnam for advice. The Tektronix website has the TBS2000B series data.

Tektronix TBS2074B oscilloscope questions

When do I need four channels instead of two?

Choose four when you must compare several nodes in one capture, such as multiple supply rails or a clock with its control lines.

Do I need isolated probes?

Sometimes. Use a differential or isolated system when the circuit needs one, and never clip a passive ground lead to a live mains conductor.

Can I keep the top sample rate with all four channels on?

No. The top rate of 2 GS/s needs half the channels active. With all four on, the maximum is 1 GS/s.
