Description

Debugging a modern board means watching many signals at once. The Tektronix MSO68B oscilloscope gives you eight FlexChannel inputs in one box, so you can follow a clock, a data line and a power rail together. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, with service on request.

How FlexChannel inputs work

First, each FlexChannel takes an analog probe. With an optional compatible logic probe, the same input becomes eight digital channels. As a result, the scope can show up to 64 digital channels. However, those counts are alternatives, not extras. Every input serves one purpose at a time.

MSO68B specifications

Series 6 Series B MSO
FlexChannel inputs 8
Bandwidth 1 GHz to 10 GHz, depending on option and active-channel configuration
Maximum sample rate Up to 50 GS/s on 2 channels, 25 GS/s on 4 and 12.5 GS/s on more than 4
Record length 62.5 Mpoints standard; optional up to 1 Gpoint on 4 channels or 500 Mpoints on more than 4
Digital channels Up to 64 with optional compatible logic probes
Analysis Protocol, power and other packages, depending on installed licenses

The best sample rate and bandwidth figures depend on how many channels are active. So do not assume them on every input at once.

Choose bandwidth, probes and options together

A scope is only as good as its whole measurement chain. Bandwidth, record length, probes and analysis licenses all change what you can see. For example, a long record helps when a slow event hides a fast glitch. So tell Lost in HCM which signals you will probe, and they will check the configuration of the Tektronix MSO68B oscilloscope on offer.

Probe with care

Never clip a conventional probe ground lead to a live mains or floating node. Instead, use a suitably rated differential or isolated measurement system. Also read the input ratings in the instrument and probe manuals before you connect anything.

Rent for a project or buy for the bench

Rental fits a short bring-up, an audit or a peak in debug work, while a purchase fits a lab that uses the scope every day. Either way, name the options you need, because delivered bandwidth and accessories vary by unit.
