Description
Power-up bugs rarely involve a single wire. The Tektronix MSO66B oscilloscope gives you six FlexChannel inputs, so you can compare several rails, clocks and control signals in one acquisition. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, with service on request.

Six inputs for system-level debugging
With six inputs, one capture on the Tektronix MSO66B oscilloscope can hold a whole power-up sequence instead of several stitched together. You can see which rail rises first, when the reset line releases and whether a clock waits for it. That view therefore makes cause and effect much easier to read.
MSO66B specifications
| Series | 6 Series B MSO |
|---|---|
| FlexChannel inputs | 6 |
| Bandwidth | 1 GHz to 10 GHz, depending on option and active-channel configuration |
| Sample rate | Up to 50 GS/s on 2 channels, 25 GS/s on 4 and 12.5 GS/s on more than 4 |
| Record length | 62.5 Mpoints standard; optional up to 1 Gpoint on 4 channels or 500 Mpoints on more than 4 |
| Digital channels | Up to 48 with optional compatible logic probes |
Splitting six inputs between analog and digital
Also, each FlexChannel is either analog or eight digital inputs. For example, four analog probes plus two logic probes would give four analog and 16 digital channels. Or six logic probes reach the 48-channel maximum. However, you never get the full analog and digital counts together.
Activity on five or six channels also matters. However, once more than four channels run, the sample rate steps down to 12.5 GS/s. So plan the acquisition around the signals that truly need speed.
Where six channels pay off
- Multi-rail sequencing, such as boards with several supplies.
- Control loops, because reference, feedback and gate signals need one time base.
- Mixed analog and digital sensor systems, plus their serial buses.
- Fault studies, since several outputs can change after one event.
Check the ratings before you probe
So keep a conventional probe ground lead off any live mains or floating node. Pick a suitably rated differential or isolated measurement system when the circuit calls for one. Then confirm the limits in the instrument and probe manuals.
Borrow it for a bring-up or buy it for the lab
Rental suits a prototype push or a field investigation, while a purchase suits a team that debugs every week. Lost in HCM quotes bandwidth, memory, probes and software together, so list each one for your MSO66B oscilloscope when you ask.

MSO66B questions and answers
Why does the sample rate drop as I add channels?
The published figures step down with the configuration: 50 GS/s on two channels, 25 GS/s on four and 12.5 GS/s beyond four. So plan around that.
Can all six inputs be digital?
Yes, with optional compatible logic probes. Then each FlexChannel gives eight digital channels, for up to 48 in total.
Do probes come with the scope?
Tell Lost in HCM which probes and logic probes you need. Then the quote lists accessories along with the instrument.
