Description
At 1-1/2 in, tube nuts belong to heavy hydraulic and fuel systems, and they often call for a stout wrench body. The Snap-on RTWH96X flare nut head brings a ratcheting 12-point ring of that size to X-shank bodies. Its open slot clears the line, so the head stays on the nut through every short stroke.

What we could confirm
The Lost in HCM listing gives the RTWH96X size as 1-1/2 in and the shank as X (0.735 in). Snap-on’s CAT1500i catalog, however, prints only the Y-shank twin, RTWH96YSL, in its ratcheting table. So the X figures come from the supplier’s Snap-on data, and Lost in HCM can confirm them on the quote. The catalog also gives no head-length figure for an X ratcheting head.
Choosing between X and Y at 1-1/2 in
The Snap-on RTWH96X flare nut head and the RTWH96YSL both fit a 1-1/2 in nut, so the body decides the choice. Pick the X version when your heavy jobs already run on X bodies. Choose the RTWH96YSL instead when a Y body covers your torque spec. In other words, buy the head that matches the wrench on your bench.

- CTECH3X250A ControlTech, 12.5-250 ft-lb.

Head length and the setting
Ratcheting flare nut heads sit farther from the pin than standard heads. Standard X heads use 4.50 in, but we found no Snap-on figure for the RTWH96X. Therefore, ask Lost in HCM for the head length before you set a click body such as the QD3IN350A. A ControlTech body handles head length with its built-in factor, which removes the guesswork.
Heavy-line work for the RTWH96X
- Main hydraulic lines on mining and construction machines.
- Fuel and lube lines on large marine engines.
- Aircraft and ground-support lines, since Snap-on’s data sheet states Boeing ST2599 compliance.

RTWH96X points to settle
Can an RTWH96YSL replace the RTWH96X?
Only on a Y body. They share the 1-1/2 in size, but the X model fits X bodies and the YSL model fits Y bodies.
Does it need a torque correction?
On click bodies it likely does, because ratcheting flare nut heads run longer. Ask Lost in HCM for the head length first.
Can I get a metric version?
Snap-on notes that metric sizes come on special order. Ask Lost in HCM to check.
