Description
Snap-on’s J-shank ratchet range climbs in sixteenths from 7/16 in and stops at 7/8 in. The Snap-on RTWH56JSL flare nut head is that final size. So it lets a slim J body work a 7/8 in tube nut without a bigger wrench. Its slotted 12-point ring slips over the line, then ratchets on the flats.

Why pair a 7/8 in nut with a J body?
A Y body is the usual partner for a nut this large. However, many 7/8 in joints carry modest values, for example on soft brass or copper flares. In that case, a J wrench sets the value in finer steps. The QC2I75, for instance, adjusts from 5 to 75 ft-lb in 0.5 ft-lb steps. The RTWH56JSL also keeps the kit light, because J bodies are short and slim.
J bodies that accept the Snap-on RTWH56JSL flare nut head
| Body | Type | Range (CAT1500i) |
|---|---|---|
| QC1I200 | Adjustable click | 40-200 in-lb |
| QC2I75 | Adjustable click | 5-75 ft-lb |
| QC2P75 | Preset click | 5-75 ft-lb |
| QD2IN100A | Adjustable click | 20-100 N·m |
| CTECH1J240A | ControlTech electronic | 12-240 in-lb |
Then match the body to the joint value rather than to the nut size. A light 7/8 in fitting may sit well inside the QC2I75 scale, while a firm one may call for the Y twin, the RTWH56YSL.
The 3.50 in reach of the Snap-on RTWH56JSL flare nut head
CAT1500i puts RTWHJ heads 3.50 in from the retaining pin to the fastener center. By contrast, fixed QJRXS flare heads on the same shank sit at 2.50 in. That extra inch adds lever, so a click body set from its scale delivers more than it shows. Therefore ask Lost in HCM for Snap-on’s setting method before the first job. A ControlTech body offers another route, since it stores a calibration factor for different head lengths.
Air-conditioning service with the RTWH56JSL
Split air-conditioning units in many plants join their copper lines with flare nuts. On 1/2 in lines, that nut often has a 7/8 in hex, although some makers use 15/16 in. A technician can fit the RTWH56JSL to a QC2I75 and ratchet the nut home without lifting the head. As a result, the soft flare sees a steady pull instead of short jerks. Always take the value from the unit maker’s manual, and measure the nut first.
Ordering the RTWH56JSL
SMK Vietnam lists this J head for Lost in HCM, which supplies it and prepares the quote. Tell the team which J body you use and the joint value you need. Then request a quote from Lost in HCM for the RTWH56JSL. Other ratchet sizes sit under torque wrench heads and adaptors, or you can contact SMK Vietnam.
RTWH56JSL questions from buyers
Is there a J ratchet larger than 7/8 in?
No. In CAT1500i the J column ends at the RTWH56JSL. Larger ratchets, such as the 15/16 in RTWH60YSL, use the Y shank.
Does the RTWH56JSL fit a Y-shank wrench?
No. The J shank measures 0.425 in, while Y receivers take 0.560 in. For a Y body, order the RTWH56YSL instead.
Should I use this head on metric 22 mm nuts?
Avoid it. Seven-eighths of an inch equals 22.23 mm, so the ring can rock on a 22 mm hex. Snap-on offers metric sizes on special order.
