Description
Mid-size tube nuts often need several turns before they seat, yet the handle may swing only a few degrees. The Snap-on RTWH48JSL flare nut head solves that at 3/4 in. Its slotted ring slips over the tube, grips the nut on 12 points, and then ratchets back for the next stroke. In addition, the J shank keeps the whole wrench light.

RTWH48JSL key data
- Hex size: 3/4 in, 12-point, ratcheting.
- Shank: J (0.425 in).
- Pin to fastener center: 3.50 in for RTWHJ heads.
- Snap-on also offers this size as the RTWH48YSL for Y bodies.
- Snap-on states the line meets Boeing ST2599 specifications.
Tube nuts that measure 3/4 in
A 3/4 in hex turns up on many mid-size inch fittings. For example, a -6 JIC nut for 3/8 in tube measures 11/16 or 3/4 in, depending on the maker. Some refrigerant flare nuts and many fuel and coolant unions also use 3/4 in. However, makers vary, so measure the nut across flats rather than the tube or the thread.
Ratcheting RTWH48JSL or a solid 3/4 in head
A solid head is still the better tool for some jobs. The QJRXS24A grips a 3/4 in nut on all six flats and keeps the standard 2.50 in J spacing. So it suits soft brass or a nut with rounded corners. The ratcheting Snap-on RTWH48JSL flare nut head, by contrast, saves time on clean nuts that need many short strokes. Pick the ratchet for repeated assembly and the solid head for repair work.
The 3.50 in reach and your torque setting
RTWHJ heads sit a full inch farther from the pin than standard J heads. That extra reach adds leverage, so a click scale set for a 2.50 in head will not read true. Snap-on gives ControlTech bodies a built-in factor for head length. Therefore, a CTECH1J240A handles this head well for light values. With click bodies such as the QC2I75 or QD2IN100A, ask Lost in HCM or Snap-on how to correct the setting.
When to move to the Y version
Snap-on’s table lists no torque rating for these ratcheting heads. So if a 3/4 in joint carries a firm spec, consider the RTWH48YSL on a Y body. It shares the 3/4 in opening but fits the larger shank.

RTWH48JSL FAQ
Does the RTWH48JSL fit a 3/8 in tube?
It fits any nut with a 3/4 in hex. Many 3/8 in tube nuts qualify, but some use 11/16 in, so measure first.
Is it the largest J ratcheting head?
No. Snap-on’s J ratcheting sizes run up to 7/8 in, with 13/16 in next above this one.
Can a QD body skip the length math with it?
Not safely. The no-math note covers heads at the standard spacing, and this head sits at 3.50 in.
