Description
A 29 mm hex often belongs to a union, a gland nut or a large adapter rather than a plain bolt. Many of those parts take a mid-range torque, so a heavy X or Z wrench is more tool than the job needs. In that case, the Snap-on QYXM29A box end head offers a lighter route. It puts a closed 29 mm ring on the Y shank, which is the smallest shank Snap-on offers at this size.

What the QYXM29A measures
| Opening | 29 mm, 12-point, closed |
|---|---|
| Shank | Y (0.560 in) |
| Outside diameter | 42 mm |
| Head depth | 18 mm |
| Pin to fastener center | 3.00 in (QYXM series) |
| Finish | Industrial, per the partner listing |
Why no J ring exists at 29 mm
Snap-on’s metric J rings end at 27 mm in its UK brochure. From 29 mm up, the table starts with the Y shank and then adds X and Z. As a result, a team with only J bodies needs a Y wrench for this size. The Snap-on QYXM29A box end head is that entry point.
Two sources, two ratings
The brochure and the partner listing print different maximum working torques for the QYXM29A. Since we cannot settle which applies, this page gives no figure at all. Lost in HCM confirms the limit with the quote, and you set the body at or below it.
Matching Y wrenches to the Snap-on QYXM29A box end head
- The QD3IN200B shows 40-200 N·m and 37-140 ft-lb on one scale.
- Fixed line values from 30 to 150 ft-lb suit the QC3P150 preset.
- Higher fixed values, up to 200 ft-lb, call for the QC3P200 instead.
- For short reach and stored readings, the 17.2 in CTECH2Y100A runs 5-100 ft-lb.
The 42 mm ring needs about 21 mm from the bolt center to any wall. Also, its 18 mm depth clears most flange lips. However, the ring is rarely the limit. So before the job, check the swing arc of a 23 in body as well as the ring room.

Questions on the 29 mm Y ring QYXM29A
Why can’t my J body take a 29 mm ring?
Snap-on’s metric J rings stop at 27 mm. For 29 mm, use a Y, X or Z body.
Does the QYXM29A fit a 30 mm nut?
No. A 30 mm M20 nut will not enter a 29 mm ring. Snap-on makes the QYXM30A for that size.
What should my quote request include?
Give the part number, your Y body model and the torque target, so Lost in HCM can confirm the head limit.
