Description
Many standard metric sets skip 23 mm, yet some machines still use it. So when a drawing calls for 23 mm, the Snap-on QYXM23A box end head saves guesswork. It mounts on a Y-shank body and grips the hex with a full 12-point ring instead of two flats.

QYXM23A dimensions
- Opening: 23 mm, 12-point box end.
- Shank: Y (0.560 in).
- Outside diameter: 34 mm.
- Head depth: 15 mm.
- Pin-to-fastener spacing: 3.00 in, as for the whole QYXM series.
These figures come from Snap-on’s UK torque brochure. Two Snap-on sources give different torque ratings for the QYXM23A, so we leave the rating out.
Ring or open jaw at 23 mm?
Size changes the trade-off. In Snap-on’s tables, the 23 mm open-end heads measure 47 mm across but only 10 mm deep. The QYXM23A ring, by contrast, is 34 mm across and 15 mm deep. So the ring fits a narrow gap between two nuts, while the open jaw fits a low gap under a cover. Also, the ring has to drop over the nut, so it cannot pass a pipe that runs through it.
Y bodies for the Snap-on QYXM23A box end head
The Y shank pairs this head with Snap-on bodies such as the QD3IN200B dual-range model and the QC3P150 and QC3P200 presets. Because the QYXM23A keeps the 3.00 in Y spacing, Snap-on says the dual-range body needs no adjustment calculation. However, confirm the head rating with Lost in HCM before you set any preset.
Moving to X or J at 23 mm
Snap-on also lists 23 mm rings for the J and X shanks. Therefore the body you already own decides most orders. For light work on a J station, use the QJXM23A instead of the QYXM23A. For heavy joints on an X body, the QXXM23A fits the larger shank.
QYXM23A care
A 12-point ring hides wear inside, so check the Snap-on QYXM23A box end head against a new nut now and then. Also blow out grit before use, because debris can stop the ring from seating fully. Then hang it on a labeled peg next to the matching body.

QYXM23A buyer questions
Why buy a 23 mm head at all?
Some machines use 23 mm fasteners, and a 22 or 24 mm head will not fit them safely.
Is the ring wider than a 23 mm open-end head?
No. It is narrower, at 34 mm against 47 mm, but it is 5 mm deeper.
Where does the torque limit come from?
Snap-on sources disagree for this head. So Lost in HCM confirms the figure with your quote.
