Description
Strut channel nuts, threaded rod and pipe clamps often carry ISO M12 hardware with an 18 mm hex. Those joints rarely leave room above the nut. The Snap-on QYOM18A open end head handles them from the side on a Y-shank (0.560 in) body. Its rating also sits far above the J version of this size, so firm M12 values stay within reach.

Rating of the QYOM18A in both Snap-on books
CAT1500i lists 115 ft-lb as the maximum recommended working torque for this jaw. Snap-on’s UK torque brochure prints 1,375 in-lb, which also comes to about 115 ft-lb, or roughly 156 N·m. By contrast, both books rate the 18 mm J jaw well below this figure. So the Y shank adds a large margin at this size. Both books also give the QYOM18A an outside diameter of about 37 mm.
Matching a Y wrench to the Snap-on QYOM18A open end head
| Y body | Scale | Above 115 ft-lb? |
|---|---|---|
| QD3IN200B, dual scale | 40-200 N·m (37-140 ft-lb) | Yes, cap the setting |
| QC3P150, preset | 30-150 ft-lb | Yes, lock it below 115 |
| QC3P200, preset | 40-200 ft-lb | Yes, lock it below 115 |
| CTECH2Y100A, electronic | 5-100 ft-lb | No |
So the CTECH2Y100A is the one Y body that can never overload the Snap-on QYOM18A open end head. For the other three, write the cap on the station sheet as well as the target.
18 mm or 19 mm for your M12 joint?
ISO 4032 gives M12 an 18 mm hex, which matches the Snap-on QYOM18A open end head. However, DIN 934 and older JIS parts put a 19 mm hex on the same thread. A plant with mixed machines may therefore need both jaws. Check one nut with a caliper before you order. If it reads 19 mm, look at the QYOM19A instead.
Pin-to-nut reach of the QYOM18A
Snap-on gives every QYOM jaw a 3.00 in span from the retaining pin to the fastener center. Both Snap-on books tie that 3.00 in figure to the QYOM series. Snap-on says QD bodies need no adjustment maths, since their heads keep one consistent length. For a QC or ControlTech body, ask Lost in HCM how to set it for this jaw.
Pricing an 18 mm Y jaw: the Snap-on QYOM18A open end head
Lost in HCM supplies this jaw and builds every price, while SMK Vietnam lists it on their behalf. When you request a quote from Lost in HCM, note your Y body and the M12 value. Other jaws and rings sit under torque wrench heads and adaptors. For a quick fit question, contact SMK Vietnam.
Fit and limit questions on the 18 mm QYOM18A
Will the QYOM18A lock into a J-shank wrench?
No. It needs a Y body, such as the QD3IN200B. For a J body, the 18 mm jaw is the QJOM18A.
Can a QC3P200 drive the QYOM18A safely?
Yes, if you lock its preset at or below 115 ft-lb. Its scale runs to 200 ft-lb, so the cap matters.
What is the QYOM18A rating in N·m?
About 156 N·m. That figure comes from Snap-on’s 115 ft-lb limit for this jaw.
