Description
A 1-5/8 in nut often carries a real clamp load, so a 60 ft-lb head may fall short. The Snap-on QYO52ARTH open end head answers that case. It keeps the thin jaw of Snap-on’s inch range, yet it moves to the stronger Y shank and a 160 ft-lb rating.

QYO52ARTH data
- Opening: 1-5/8 in, thin open end.
- Shank: Y, 0.560 in.
- Maximum working torque: 160 ft-lb, about 217 N·m.
- Fastener center to retaining pin: 3.00 in (QYO series).
Snap-on QYO52ARTH open end head or the J-shank QJO52ARTH?
Both heads open to 1-5/8 in, but they differ in strength and body. The QJO52ARTH fits J bodies and stops at 60 ft-lb. In contrast, the QYO52ARTH fits Y bodies and carries 160 ft-lb. So let the joint spec decide. Below 60 ft-lb, the lighter J set-up works well. Above it, choose this Y head.
Neighbor sizes in the Y thin range
Snap-on’s Y thin inch heads run from 1-1/2 to 2-1/4 in, all rated at 160 ft-lb. Next to the QYO52ARTH, the QYO50ARTH covers 1-9/16 in and the QYO56ARTH covers 1-3/4 in. Because those steps are small, measure across the flats with a caliper. Also avoid using an inch head on a 41 mm metric nut that only looks close.
Y-shank bodies for the QYO52ARTH
- QD3IN200B dual-range: 37 to 140 ft-lb, all inside the head rating.
- QC3P150 preset: 30 to 150 ft-lb, also inside the rating.
- QC3P200 preset: 40 to 200 ft-lb, so cap the setting at 160.
- CTECH2Y100A ControlTech: up to 100 ft-lb, for lighter specs.
The head keeps the 3.00 in Y spacing, so the QD body reads true without length math. ControlTech wrenches, meanwhile, apply a stored head-length factor.
Where a thin 1-5/8 in jaw helps
Plants use this size on lock nuts for large adjusters, on pipe unions, and on cylinder rod jam nuts. In each case, the Snap-on QYO52ARTH open end head slips in beside a second nut, while the open side reaches flats on a rod or pipe.
Care for the QYO52ARTH
First, seat both jaw faces fully before you pull. Next, look for burrs or spread after heavy use. In addition, never use the head to break a nut loose, and plan regular recalibration for the body.

QYO52ARTH FAQ
Why pay for the Y version instead of the J?
Because it carries 160 ft-lb, while the J-shank QJO52ARTH stops at 60 ft-lb.
Which body uses the full 160 ft-lb?
The QC3P200 preset reaches past 160 ft-lb, so set it at 160 or below.

No. Snap-on lists it as a thin open end head with a 1-5/8 in opening.
