Description
Most 16 mm heads sit on light J or Y bodies. The Snap-on QXXM16A box end head is different, because it puts a 16 mm ring on the large X shank. That pairing helps a station that already runs an X body for big bolts, yet also meets 16 mm nuts on the same job.

What we can state about the QXXM16A
- Opening: 16 mm, 12-point box end.
- Shank: X, which Snap-on sizes at 0.735 in.
- Fastener center to retaining pin: 4.50 in for the QXXM series.
Neither Snap-on’s CAT1500i nor its UK torque brochure lists this exact head. In that brochure, the X-shank 12-point rings start at 17 mm. So we do not quote a rating or dimensions for the QXXM16A, and Lost in HCM can confirm them.
Why put a 16 mm ring on an X body?
Changing bodies takes time on a busy line. For example, a gearbox job may mix 30 mm mounting bolts with 16 mm cover nuts. With the QXXM16A, one X body handles both, as long as each head stays within its own limit. Also, the longer X handle helps when the nut sits deep inside a frame.
When a J or Y ring is the better buy
A 16 mm nut seldom needs X-level torque. Therefore, if you own a J or Y body, a QJXM16A or QYXM16A ring may suit the job better and weigh less. Snap-on lists both in its 12-point metric table. However, if the X body is the only calibrated handle at the station, the Snap-on QXXM16A box end head saves you from carrying a second wrench.
Ring versus open jaw on 16 mm nuts
A 12-point ring touches every corner, so it rarely rounds a small nut. By contrast, an open jaw grips two flats and can slip at higher values. On the other hand, the ring cannot pass a tube that runs through the nut. So use the QXXM16A on bolts and studs, and choose a flare nut head for tube fittings.
Looking after the Snap-on QXXM16A box end head
Small rings collect chips and grit quickly. Blow the QXXM16A clean before each shift, and check that the lock pin seats fully in the X body. Then keep the head in a labeled slot, because 16 and 17 mm rings look almost alike.

QXXM16A FAQ
Why can’t I find the QXXM16A in Snap-on’s printed tables?
The Snap-on tables we checked list X-shank rings from 17 mm. Lost in HCM can confirm the part and its data with your quote.
Is 16 mm the M10 size?
Many ISO M10 nuts use 16 mm. However, DIN-style M10 parts often use 17 mm, so measure the flats first.
What torque limit should I use?
Use the figure Lost in HCM confirms for this head, and never the full scale of the X body.
