Description

Some stations run one heavy X torque body all shift, yet still meet a handful of 14 mm bolts. Swapping to a second wrench for those bolts costs time. Lost in HCM offers the Snap-on QXXM14A box end head for that case, as a closed 14 mm, 12-point ring on the X shank. Before you order it, however, read the part check below.

Part check for the Snap-on QXXM14A box end head

The partner listing names an X (0.735 in) shank, and the QXX prefix agrees. Still, the 14 mm row in Snap-on’s UK torque brochure shows only two rings. Those are the QJXM14A for J bodies and the QYXM14A for Y bodies. In that brochure, X rings begin at 17 mm. We also found no metric box end table in CAT1500i. So please confirm the part number and shank with Lost in HCM before you place an order.

Numbers we leave off

The partner data gives a rating, a width and a depth for this head. However, no Snap-on table we checked backs those figures for an X ring at 14 mm. Therefore, this page omits them. Lost in HCM can confirm each value for the QXXM14A when it quotes.

Small values on a large X body

  • QD3IN350A: its 59-251 ft-lb scale starts high.
  • QC4P300: a preset body locked between 60 and 300 ft-lb.
  • CTECH3X250A: the lowest X start we found, at 12.5 ft-lb.

A bolt that fits the QXXM14A seldom needs X-level torque. Snap-on rates QC click accuracy from 20 to 100 percent of full scale, so a small value may fall below that band. For example, a low spec sits outside the QD3IN350A scale, which starts at 59 ft-lb. In that case, the ControlTech body or a J or Y ring is the better fit.

When the X ring still makes sense

The QXXM series puts the bolt 4.50 in from the locking pin. As a result, the QXXM14A on an X tool gives a long, steady pull in deep frames. That helps on steel parts with a firm 14 mm spec at an X-only station. Many reduced-hex flange bolts on Japanese-built machines also use 14 mm, so measure each hex first.

Confirming and quoting the Snap-on QXXM14A box end head

Lost in HCM supplies this ring and writes the quote, and SMK Vietnam only shows it here. State your X body, the bolt size and the torque value when you request a quote from Lost in HCM and ask them to confirm the part data. Printed J and Y rings sit under torque wrench heads and adaptors, and you can contact SMK Vietnam at any time.

QXXM14A points to settle first

Can I find the QXXM14A in a Snap-on table?

We could not find it. The UK brochure lists only J and Y rings at 14 mm, so ask Lost in HCM to confirm the part.

Which 14 mm ring does Snap-on print for a Y body?

The QYXM14A. It fits Y bodies such as the QD3IN200B, which reads 37-140 ft-lb.

Can an X body read a small value well?

Check the scale first. Snap-on rates QC bodies from 20 to 100 percent of full scale, so low values may need a smaller body.
