Description
A 22 mm hex is a small nut for an X-shank wrench, yet many plants need exactly that pairing. The Snap-on QXOM22A open end head lets an X body tighten 22 mm hydraulic adapters, hose ends and bolts to higher values than lighter shanks allow. It also saves a second handle on lines that already run X bodies.

Catalog figures for the QXOM22A
| Opening | 22 mm, open end |
|---|---|
| Shank | X (0.735 in) |
| Maximum recommended working torque | 206 ft-lb (about 279 N·m) |
| O.D. | 46 mm |
| Head depth | 10 mm |
| Fastener center to retaining pin | 4.50 in (QXOM series) |
Why choose an X head at 22 mm
Snap-on lists three 22 mm open-end heads. The J version carries 60 ft-lb, and the Y version carries 160 ft-lb. The QXOM22A raises that to 206 ft-lb. So it makes sense when a 22 mm joint needs more than 160 ft-lb, or when your station already owns an X body. However, 206 ft-lb sits below the 240 ft-lb of larger X heads, because the small jaw sets the limit.
Matching an X body to the Snap-on QXOM22A open end head
X-shank bodies in CAT1500i include the QD3IN350A dual-range body, at 70 to 350 N·m (59 to 251 ft-lb), and the QC4P300 preset at 60 to 300 ft-lb. Both run past the head rating at full scale. Therefore set your value at 206 ft-lb or lower. Also note the long 4.50 in spacing from pin to fastener on the QXOM22A. Snap-on says its QD dual-range bodies need no adjustment calculation with heads sized this way.
Clearance around a 22 mm fitting
The Snap-on QXOM22A open end head measures 46 mm across and 10 mm deep. That profile slides between a manifold and a hose, as long as the jaw can swing in from the side. Meanwhile, the X body is long and heavy, so plan the arc of the pull before you start. On crowded manifolds, a J or Y body may fit better if the torque allows.
Keeping the QXOM22A in service
Hydraulic oil makes jaws slip, so wipe the fitting and the jaw before each pull. Then check the pin bore for wear. Finally, never use the QXOM22A to crack a stuck fitting, because Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with torque tools.

QXOM22A questions
Why does a 22 mm X head carry less than 240 ft-lb?
The jaw size limits the load. Snap-on publishes 206 ft-lb for this size on the X shank.
Would a Y head do the same job?
Only up to 160 ft-lb. Above that, the QXOM22A is the 22 mm open-end choice.
How does 206 ft-lb convert to N·m?
It equals about 279 N·m, so check your metric job sheet against that figure.
