Snap-on QJXM23A Box End Head, 23 mm 12-Point Ring, J Shank (0.425″)

The Snap-on QJXM23A box end head puts a closed 23 mm, 12-point ring on the light J shank (0.425 in). It lets a short click wrench set low values on large gland nuts, caps and fittings.

Description

Big hex, small number: that is the job for the Snap-on QJXM23A box end head. It puts a closed 23 mm ring on the light J shank, so a short click wrench can tighten a large nut to a modest value. That combination suits brass gland nuts, plastic tank fittings and threaded caps, where too much force cracks the part. By contrast, a heavy body would read poorly at such low settings.

QJXM23A dimensions and reach

Opening 23 mm, 12-point, closed
Shank J (0.425 in)
Outside diameter 34 mm
Head depth 15 mm
Pin to fastener center 2.50 in (QJXM series)

Snap-on’s UK brochure lists 23 mm rings on the J, Y and X shanks, with no Z option. Also, all three share the 34 mm width and 15 mm depth. Only the shank and the reach change between them.

No rating yet for the Snap-on QJXM23A box end head

The brochure and the partner listing give two different limits for this J ring. Therefore we print neither. Instead, Lost in HCM states the confirmed figure on the quote, and your setting stays at or below it. Note, too, that J rings from 13 mm to 27 mm all share one ceiling in the brochure. So a larger J ring does not carry more torque than a smaller one.

Light J wrenches that suit the Snap-on QJXM23A box end head

  • QD2IN50A: 10-50 N·m (9.2-35.0 ft-lb), with both scales on one tube.
  • QD2IN100A: 20-100 N·m (16.6-71.9 ft-lb), on the same 14-1/2 in length.
  • QC2I75: an adjustable 5-75 ft-lb body, 13 in long.
  • QC2P75: the preset version of that range, 11 in long.

Snap-on says the QD bodies need no adjustment maths, because their heads keep one consistent pin-to-fastener length. That keeps setup simple with the Snap-on QJXM23A box end head. For a QC body, ask Lost in HCM whether the 2.50 in reach needs a correction.

Measure before you buy a 23 mm ring

Standard ISO 4032 nuts jump from 21 mm for M14 to 24 mm for M16. Meanwhile, DIN 934 uses 22 mm and 24 mm for the same threads. A 23 mm hex therefore usually comes from a maker’s own part rather than a standard nut. Check the hex across the flats, and then order the QJXM23A once the caliper reads 23.

Questions about the 23 mm J ring

Does a bigger J ring like the QJXM23A take more torque than a small one?

Not in Snap-on’s brochure. There, J rings from 13 to 27 mm all share the same ceiling.

Can I fit the QJXM23A to a QD3IN200B?

No. That body takes Y heads, so it needs the QYXM23A instead.

Why use a J body with the QJXM23A on a large hex?

Low values read better on a small scale. For example, the QD2IN50A starts at 9.2 ft-lb.
