Description
Tube nuts on hydraulic, fuel and air lines are often soft, and an open end can round their corners. The Snap-on QJRXS16A flare nut head wraps six flats of a 1/2 in nut while a slot clears the tube. So you can torque the fitting on a J-shank body without cutting or disconnecting the line.

Why a 6-point flare nut head
A flare nut head surrounds most of the hex but leaves a gap for the tube. As a result, it spreads the load over more of the nut than a two-flat open end. That matters on brass and soft steel fittings, where a slip can damage the nut and the seal. In addition, the QJRXS16A slot lets you fit the head after the line is in place.
Sizing around the Snap-on QJRXS16A flare nut head
- QJRXS14A: 7/16 in, J shank, rated 42 ft-lb.
- QJRXS16A: 1/2 in, J shank, rated 54 ft-lb.
- QJRXS18A: 9/16 in, J shank, rated 60 ft-lb.
- QYRXS18A: 9/16 in, Y shank, rated 67 ft-lb.
Measure the nut across the flats rather than going by the tube size, because the two often differ.
Matching a J body to 54 ft-lb
The QC1I200 tops out at 200 in-lb, which is well below this head’s rating. For settings near the top, therefore, a QC2I75 adjustable body or a QD2IN100A dual-range body makes more sense. Both read past 54 ft-lb, so cap the setting at that value.
Looking after the QJRXS16A
Wipe hydraulic oil and brake fluid off the Snap-on QJRXS16A flare nut head after each job. Then check the slot edges for spread, since an opened jaw loses grip. Also keep the body on its periodic calibration schedule, as Snap-on recommends.

QJRXS16A FAQ
Is 1/2 in the drive size or the nut size?
It is the nut size. The partner listing title mentions a square drive, but Snap-on’s catalog shows the QJRXS16A as a 1/2 in 6-point flare nut head.
Can I free a stuck fitting with it?
No. Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with torque tools. Use an ordinary flare nut wrench for that, then torque with this head.
Is there a Y-shank 1/2 in version?
No. Snap-on’s 6-point inch flare nut heads on Y shanks start at 9/16 in with the QYRXS18A.
