Description

Some brass unions, gauge adapters and plastic valve bodies carry a 23 mm hex. These parts can crack or twist long before a heavy wrench feels tight. The Snap-on QJOM23A open end head gives them a measured pull on a light J-shank (0.425 in) torque body. Because the jaw enters from the side, the pipe or cable stays where it is.

A water skid job for the Snap-on QJOM23A open end head

Picture a reverse-osmosis skid in a Binh Duong plant. A technician must snug a brass union without turning the PVC line behind it. A socket cannot drop over the pipe, and an adjustable spanner gives no control. So the QJOM23A slides onto the flats, and the J body clicks at the value on the work card. In addition, the same small kit reaches transmitter fittings on that frame. Still, check each hex with a caliper first, because 22, 23 and 24 mm parts look alike.

Printed size of the QJOM23A

Opening 23 mm, open end
Shank J (0.425 in)
Outside diameter 47 mm
Head depth 10 mm
Fastener center to retaining pin 2.50 in (QJOM series)

Both Snap-on catalogs give the QJOM23A these outer sizes, so you can plan clearance with confidence.

One safe cap while the QJOM23A limit stays open

The two Snap-on books print different maximum values for this 23 mm J jaw. For that reason, this page quotes no rating. Instead, run the head on a body whose whole scale stays low. The QD2IN50A fits that rule, since it reads 10 to 50 N·m (9.2 to 35.0 ft-lb). The QC1P300 preset and the QC1I200 adjustable work in inch-pounds, so they also stay well down. However, the QC2P75, QC2I75 and QD2IN100A climb higher. With those bodies, ask Lost in HCM to confirm the QJOM23A limit before you use the top of the scale.

Swing room around a 47 mm jaw

A QD2IN50A body runs 14-1/2 in long, while the QC2P75 preset is shorter at 11 in. Then add the Snap-on QJOM23A open end head itself, which needs a clear arc on both sides of the nut. Also look at the hex land. If the flats stand lower than the 10 mm jaw, the head may touch the next part and tilt.

Light 23 mm work: QJOM23A answers

Will a 7/8 in nut fit the QJOM23A?

Not well. A 7/8 in hex measures about 22.2 mm, so it rattles in a 23 mm jaw and can round its corners. For inch parts, Snap-on lists the QJO28A at 7/8 in.

Does the QJOM23A suit an M14 or M16 nut?

No. ISO puts 21 mm on M14 and 24 mm on M16, while DIN uses 22 mm for M14. So a true 23 mm hex is usually a fitting or adapter body.

Can I get a 23 mm jaw in a heavier shank?

Yes. Snap-on also lists the QYOM23A for Y bodies and the QXOM23A for X bodies. Neither catalog shows a Z version at this size.
