Description
Large nuts do not always need large torque. Jam nuts, gland nuts and tube fittings often have wide flats but a modest spec. The Snap-on QJO40ARTH open end head covers that case. It pairs a 1-1/4 in thin open end with a small J-shank body.

|---|---|
| Style | Thin open end head, inch |

| Fastener center to retaining pin | 2.50 in (QJO series) |
Where the thin QJO40ARTH helps
An open jaw slides onto the flats from the side. So it reaches nuts that sit on a pipe, a rod or a cable, where a ring cannot pass. A thin profile also helps when a second nut or a bracket sits close behind. For example, think of lock nuts on adjusters, fittings near a manifold, or packing nuts on valves.
Bodies that suit the QJO40ARTH
It needs a J-shank body. On SMK Vietnam, that covers the QD2IN50A and QD2IN100A dual-range wrenches, the QC2I75 and QC1I200 adjustable wrenches, and J-shank ControlTech models such as the CTECH1J240A. However, the QD2IN100A scale reaches 71.9 ft-lb. So keep its setting at 60 ft-lb or below with this head. Since the head keeps the 2.50 in J spacing, Snap-on’s dual-range QD bodies need no adjustment math.
QJO40ARTH or a nearby inch size?
Measure across the flats first. Snap-on’s thin J heads step in small inch sizes, such as 1-3/16 in (QJO38ARTH) and 1-3/8 in (QJO44ARTH) on either side of this one. Also check the spec. If the joint needs more than 60 ft-lb, step up to a Y-shank thin head, because those carry 160 ft-lb. Finally, do not use an inch head on a metric nut that only looks close.
Looking after the QJO40ARTH
Open jaws can spread if someone overloads them. Therefore, never exceed the 60 ft-lb rating, and never use the head to break a fastener loose. Check the jaw faces for burrs. In addition, keep the wrench body on a regular recalibration plan.

QJO40ARTH FAQ
Is the QJO40ARTH a square drive head?
No. Despite the partner listing title, Snap-on lists it as a thin open end head with a 1-1/4 in opening.
What is its torque limit?
Snap-on gives 60 ft-lb, about 81 N·m, as the maximum working torque.
Can I use it on a 32 mm nut?
Not as a substitute. 1-1/4 in is about 31.75 mm, so use a metric head for metric nuts.
