Description
A plain power supply pushes current out and stops there. A Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 SMU can also pull current in, which is what a charging battery or a regulator under load demands. It is a source measure unit (SMU) that sources, sinks and measures on one channel.

Four quadrants in plain terms
The NGU401 has one channel and works in four quadrants. It sources and sinks at both positive and negative voltage, from -20 V to +20 V. The output limit is 60 W. As a result, the current you can draw depends on the voltage you set.
The rating is up to ±8 A at 6 V or below. Above 6 V it is up to ±3 A. So plot your working points against that curve before you plan a test, and leave margin for startup surges and protection trips.
Measure while you source
FastLog records up to 500 ksample/s, so short load steps and wake-up spikes show up in the data. You can choose voltage priority or current priority, and remote sensing cancels the drop in your leads. USB and LAN handle control from a computer.
However, battery simulation and the digital voltmeter need options. Name them in your request, because the base unit does not include them by default.
Tests that suit a Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 SMU
- Charge and discharge cells and small packs.
- Characterize diodes, transistors and other semiconductors.
- Run sensors across their full supply range.
- Catch startup current on low-power boards.
For example, a battery lab can log a charger handoff, while a sensor team sweeps supply voltage and watches the current draw.
Rent for a project, or buy
Lost in HCM lists the NGU401 for rental and for sale, and it arranges service on request. A short project fits a rental, while a lab with daily demand may prefer to buy. Either way, the price comes in a quote.
Quote the Rohde & Schwarz order number 3639.3763.03 so nobody mixes it up with its 20 W sibling. In addition, list your voltage, peak current, interfaces and accessories. Lost in HCM then checks the exact configuration.
Request the Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 SMU
SMK Vietnam lists the unit, and Lost in HCM supplies it. Please request a quote from Lost in HCM to start. Compare other power supply listings, or contact SMK Vietnam for help. Final limits sit on the Rohde & Schwarz site.
Rohde & Schwarz NGU401 SMU questions
How much current can it give at 12 V?
Above 6 V the rating is up to ±3 A. So it cannot reach 8 A at 12 V.
Does battery simulation come standard?
No. Battery simulation and the digital voltmeter need options, so ask for them in your quote.
Which interfaces does it offer for automation?
USB and LAN both work for remote control, so it fits a computer-run test system.
