Description
How much power does your device really draw, and when? The Rohde & Schwarz NGM201 supply answers that question on a single channel of 0 V to 20 V and up to 60 W. It also combines linear regulation with FastLog acquisition up to 500 ksample/s. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, with service on request.

One channel built for measuring
The NGM201 is a high-precision DC supply with FastLog, and it works in two quadrants. That means it sources current and also sinks it. In addition, remote sensing, USB and LAN interfaces support detailed power analysis. As a result, you can supply a device and study its demand on one instrument.
Capturing fast current changes
At the top FastLog rate, the instrument takes one sample every 2 microseconds. Short load steps and wake-up bursts then show up in the record. So choose a logging mode that fits the event, and keep the raw timestamps. Also note any filtering or averaging, so another engineer can repeat the run.
Limits to plan around
- First, voltage runs from 0 V to 20 V on the single channel.
- Second, maximum power is 60 W.
- Then current reaches 6 A at 6 V or below.
- Finally, current reaches 3 A above 6 V.
The 60 W limit means the headline voltage and current never occur together. So leave margin for transients when you size a load.
Battery simulation is an add-on
Battery simulation needs the applicable optional function. So name it in your request if you want to model a cell or pack. Sink operation also matters here, because a battery may push current back into the instrument. Confirm the sink limits in the manual first.
Rent or buy the Rohde & Schwarz NGM201 supply
A short power-profiling campaign suits a rental. However, a lab that tunes sleep current every week may prefer to own the unit. Rohde & Schwarz NGM201 supply questions
How fast does FastLog sample?
Up to 500 ksample/s, which equals one reading every 2 microseconds at the top rate.
How is it different from a two-channel model?
The NGM201 has one channel and FastLog acquisition. The NGL202 has two channels and standard data logging.
Does it include battery simulation?
Battery simulation needs the applicable optional function. Ask for it by name, because the base unit does not assume it.
