Description

Edges get faster with every board revision. The Rigol MSO5204 oscilloscope lifts bandwidth to 200 MHz on four analog channels and keeps 16 digital inputs for logic. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, and it arranges service on request.

200 MHz: room above everyday logic

A common rule of thumb asks for bandwidth several times higher than the signal you measure. That margin keeps edges from looking rounded. So a 200 MHz scope gives more headroom than a 100 MHz one for the same board. Even so, always check the real edge speed on your design.

Jobs that call for the Rigol MSO5204 oscilloscope

Switching power stages, fast microcontroller buses and clock distribution all benefit from the extra bandwidth. For example, a designer can compare a converter switch node with its gate signal on two channels. Meanwhile, the other two channels track the output and a logic line. As a result, you see cause and effect in one capture.

Sample rate and the channel count

The top rate of 8 GSa/s applies to a single channel. When all analog channels run, the rate settles at 2 GSa/s. Therefore, a four-channel test uses the lower figure, and you should confirm it still covers your fastest edge. Memory also depends on the channel mode, with 100 Mpts standard and up to 200 Mpts optional.

Plan the order

Name the PLA2216 probe if you want the digital inputs. Add analog probes that match your voltage and speed. Mention the optional 2-channel 25 MHz AFG if the circuit needs a stimulus.

A development sprint often needs more speed for a short time, so renting the Rigol MSO5204 oscilloscope can pay off. Lost in HCM supplies the unit, and SMK Vietnam only shows the listing. MSO5204 questions

What rule of thumb helps me pick bandwidth?

Choose bandwidth well above the signal you measure, so edges look sharp. Then confirm the real edge speed on your board.

Does 8 GSa/s apply to every channel?

No. It applies to a single channel, and the rate is 2 GSa/s with all analog channels active.

Do the digital channels need an extra probe?

Yes. They need the PLA2216 probe, so list it in your request.
