Description
Some test jobs care more about amps than volts. The Keysight RP7945A power system delivers 80 V and ±250 A from a single 10 kW regenerative DC system. It belongs to the RP7900 family, and it sources power or absorbs it back from the device.

RP7945A at a glance
- Maximum voltage: 80 V.
- Source or sink current rating: ±250 A.
- Rated power: 10 kW.
- AC input: three-phase 400/480 VAC.
- Mode: two-quadrant source and regenerative electronic load.
Working inside the power envelope
Voltage and current are separate limits, so you cannot use both maximums at once. Eighty volts at 250 A would be 20 kW, and the unit stops at 10 kW. Therefore, list your real operating points before you book, including transient profiles, peak demand and allowed overshoot.
That planning step pays off, because a point outside the envelope simply cannot run. A short sheet of voltage and current pairs also helps the quote.
Where high current helps
Energy-storage work is the obvious fit. Two-quadrant operation lets the system charge a pack, then take the discharge back. However, review the chemistry, state of charge, precharge, fault current, isolation and emergency stop with qualified engineers. Battery-emulation software is a separate item, so ask for it if you need it.
Low-voltage vehicle subsystems, bidirectional converters and industrial power modules also suit this range. The system alone does not prove compliance with an automotive transient standard. Instead, translate the procedure into voltage, current, timing, fixture and protection needs.
In endurance runs, regeneration returns absorbed energy to a compatible facility supply. Plan thermal management, automation and result storage around that, and get site electrical approval before installation.

Keysight RP7945A power system questions
Can I run 80 V and 250 A together?
No. That pair would exceed 10 kW, so the rated power sets the real limit.
Does it need special site power?
It takes three-phase 400/480 VAC, so have your facility team approve the supply first.
Are software and accessories included?
Only items in the quote are included. Ask for cables, fixtures and any battery-emulation software by name.
