Before you rent a 5 kW regenerative system, check the building as well as the bench. The Keysight RP7942A power system runs from three-phase 400/480 VAC and returns absorbed energy to a compatible facility supply. It delivers 80 V and ±125 A, and it belongs to the RP7900 family of bidirectional DC systems.
Site checklist before you book
The facility must allow regenerative energy flow. First, ask your electrical team to approve the supply, protective earth, AC protection and DC cable sizing. Then agree how to isolate the system, discharge energy and trigger an emergency stop. Qualified staff should also write these steps into the test plan.

Eighty volts at 125 A would reach 10 kW, double the rating. Voltage and current are separate limits, so respect the power envelope.
What regeneration changes in a test plan
However, a conventional electronic load turns absorbed energy into heat. This system sends much of it back to the supply instead. Therefore long endurance runs dissipate less heat in the lab. Then plan throughput, energy flow, automation and result storage around that.

Can it absorb power as well as supply it?
Yes. It works as a two-quadrant source and a regenerative electronic load, within its rated limits.
Does it replace an automotive transient test?
No. However, the system alone does not prove compliance with a standard. Translate the procedure into voltage, current, timing, fixture and protection settings first.
