Description

Most test plans come down to a handful of operating points. The Keysight RP7935A power system covers a wide spread of them, from 80 V to ±250 A, in one 10 kW regenerative DC system. It sources power and absorbs it, and three-phase 200/208 VAC feeds it. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale.

Operating points at a glance

Voltage Highest current Power
80 V about 125 A 10 kW
60 V about 167 A 10 kW
40 V 250 A 10 kW
20 V 250 A 5 kW

How the numbers fit together

Eighty volts at 250 A would be 20 kW, so the two maximums cannot meet. Above 40 V, the 10 kW rating sets the current. Below 40 V, the 250 A rating takes over. The table shows that crossover with simple arithmetic on the listed ratings. Add your own transient profile and allowable overshoot to it.

A middle path in the RP7900 line

Next to the RP7932A, this model keeps the 80 V ceiling but doubles the current and the power. Next to the RP7933A, it gives up current to gain voltage. Therefore it suits teams that test several products on one system, because the range stays wide.

Source, sink and regeneration on the Keysight RP7935A power system

The system works as a source and as an electronic load. When it acts as a load, regeneration returns the absorbed energy to a compatible facility supply. It fits converter, battery and energy-storage work, but review chemistry, precharge, fault current and isolation with qualified engineers. Battery-emulation software is separate, so name it in the quote.

What the site must provide

Plan a three-phase 200/208 VAC supply that permits regenerative flow, and get electrical approval first. Also check DC cable size, polarity, remote sensing, interlocks and shutdown against the operating guide. Start with conservative limits, then verify both source and sink behavior against your test plan.

RP7935A power envelope questions

Where does the current limit start to apply?

Below 40 V the 250 A rating governs. Above 40 V the 10 kW rating does.

How does it differ from the RP7932A?

Both reach 80 V. The RP7935A offers ±250 A and 10 kW, while the RP7932A offers ±125 A and 5 kW.

What does it need from the site?

It needs three-phase 200/208 VAC input and a facility that permits regenerative energy flow.
